Contract cheating happens when a third party (essay mill, friend, classmate, family member) completes work for a student that they then submit for a mark or grade (QAA, 2017). It is a form of academic dishonesty that threatens a student's learning, gives an unfair advantage, tarnishes a program or school's reputation, and can come with financial and emotional costs.

You can take part in an online pledge speaking out against contract cheating: turnitin.com/partners/day-of-action-2018

AND on October 17, be part of an international effort to raise awareness against contract cheating. You can participate in the Whiteboard Declaration taking place at all three campuses between 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on October 17. A whiteboard declaration asks you to write a message on a whiteboard against contract cheating and for integrity in learning. We'll take a picture and post it to Humber's social media platforms (Twitter/Facebook/Instagram).

Whiteboard messages will be tweeted with the hashtags #defeatthecheat #excelwithintegrity. You will find teams of volunteers at Orangeville (2nd floor), North Campus (LRC), and Lakeshore (Display Area L Building) ready and willing to help you with your whiteboard declaration.

You can also learn more about some of the many services we offer at Humber that will help to support integrity in learning and teaching. Come out and be part of this international effort that boasts higher educational organizations participating from across North America, UK and Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and Africa.

For more information about contract cheating and the day of action please contact Jennie Miron at x4480 or go to academicintegrity.org/day-against-contract-cheating

If you can't visit one of the three campuses on October 17, try writing your own whiteboard declaration, take a picture, and post it to your social media sites. Remember if you are tweeting to include the hashtags #defeatthecheat #excelwithintegrity so we can get it to trend and increase awareness against contract cheating practices. Our work and integrity matters and shines at Humber!
