In Class

Inclusive Design encompasses the key elements of multiple teaching and learning approaches to offer a robust and accessible learning experience for all students. The principles of inclusive curriculum design focus on a proactive rather than reactive approach to course design and are founded in equity, collaboration, flexibility and accountability. This Certificate addresses the idea that students are not meant to fit into a traditional “one size fits all” model of education and that applying the principles of inclusive design will ensure that the range of student diversities, abilities, and needs are being met through a number of teaching and learning strategies.

The Certificate is comprised of seven 3-hour learning modules, a coaching session, and a reflection activity. Upon successful completion of these components, participants receive a Certificate of Completion.

Note: The modules must be taken in the following order: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.

If you have any questions, please contact Katie Billard at katie.billard@humber.ca

IDC Module 1: Foundations of Inclusive Design This module explores the role of inclusive design in optimizing the experience of all learners. Participants will be introduced to the universal design for learning (UDL) guidelines, which will be applied throughout the Inclusive Design Certificate program.  Participants will also explore the post-secondary student experience through discussion and simulation and will reflect on the importance of adopting inclusive design practices.

Humber College is committed to promoting a learning, working and living environment that is free from all forms of discrimination and harassment. As part of our commitment, the College is hosting its second annual Take Back the Night march on Thursday, September 28th, 2017, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A shuttle bus will be leaving Lakeshore Campus at 5:30 p.m. in front of the Lakeshore Bookstore.

Take Back the Night is a movement that was started by women who had experienced sexual assault. Women and their allies marched and participated through rallies, marches and candlelight vigils, to denounce all forms of sexual violence. Today, Take Back the Night recognizes that all people of all genders can experience sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence. However, women, particularly women with disabilities, indigenous and racialized women, low-income women, and trans women are more likely to experience such violence.

Everyone is welcome to attend and march in solidarity with survivors of sexual assault and other forms of sexual violence. We encourage self-identified survivors to take the lead at the front of the march if they would like, with allies and advocates marching in support behind them.

In preparation for the march, Aboriginal drummers and a Punjabi dholi will kick off the event with drumming in the LRC, North Campus. Humber welcomes Yamikani Msosa to share remarks about the importance of supporting survivors and creating a culture of consent. We will end the night by taking to the streets, and marching the perimeter of Humber’s North campus.

Join the Consent is Sexy Crew and Humber Galleries for sign-making prior to the march. Share your chants and messages in solidarity with survivors.

Sign-making will be held from 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on the first floor of the LRC (North Campus).

Child care will be available on September 28th starting at 6:00 p.m. Please note that there are limited spots (approximately 15 spots). In order to reserve a spot please e-mail Adriana Sternfels adriana.sternfels@humber.ca with the first name, last name, and age of your child by September 25th. You will then receive confirmation of your request and further details.

Designing high quality questions is one of the most important aspects of survey development. The goal is to create questions that accurately measure the opinions, experiences and behaviour of the individuals in question. This process can be a delicate mixture of art and science. In this workshop, we will explore best practices and potential pitfalls to help you maximize the quality and utility of your data, in relation to the questions you are asking and the analyses you wish to perform.
