Can you believe it summer is almost over, leaves have even started changing colour on some trees. However as they say, the show must go on. Joins us on October 3rd at 10 a.m. for our latest topic in our gardening workshop series Putting Your Garden to bed.

In this workshop we will focus on how to prepare your garden for winter. We will touch on cutting and seed saving, soil improvement, winterizing container pots and more. Our focus will not be on one type of garden but all types, be it a lawn or garden with a mix of annuals, perennials, herbs, vegetables or trees and shrubs.

If you simply have questions about gardening or your garden in particular, members of the Etobicoke Master Gardeners will be there to answer.

As with previous sessions this workshop is FREE be sure to register early as spots are limited.

Celebrate the 25th anniversary of Humber’s Transportation Training Centre at a career fair and open house. Up to 30 of the nation’s top employers will be on hand to discuss a wide variety of exciting opportunities in the trucking industry.

Activities include:

  • MLSE promo trucks for the Toronto Maple Leafs
  • Opening remarks from Humber President Chris Whitaker at 11 a.m.
  • Free BBQ lunch at noon
  • Truck rides – experience what it’s like to be in the cab of a tractor trailer unit
  • Draws for a free truck course (valued at $1500) and a free motorcycle course (valued at $555)

Developed in response to a shortage of truck drivers in the late 1980s, the Transportation Training Centre was launched in October 1990 to provide a comprehensive program that went beyond simply teaching the basic skills necessary to get a licence.

“Teaching soft skills, cargo security, U.S. regulations and more, we focus on promoting road safety and developing graduates that are widely accepted in the industry,” said Rick Mikula, program liaison officer at Humber. “Employers don’t hire a driver’s licence to drive a truck, they hire a person. Humber is in the business of developing people that meet industry needs.”
