  • When:
    May 14, 2014 5:00pm
Date/Time:
May 14, 2014 - 5:00pm
Where:
All Campus Locations, Webinar

Time: 5 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“I studied, but the questions on the test were different than what we covered in class.”
“I work nights, so I don’t have time to do the assignments.”
“My teacher is so boring that he’s making me fail the class.”
“Why do I even need this course, anyway?”

Do these statements sound familiar? Many students possess the intellectual capability to succeed in their chosen program but fail to reach their academic potential due to a lack of study skills or self-management skills, and in particular due to an unwillingness to take personal responsibility for their experiences and outcomes at college.

While your program may not have an entire course dedicated to student success, we can show you some easy and fun techniques that you can employ to incorporate study skills and success strategies into your curriculum, whatever subject you may teach.

Presenters: Michelle Jordan and Lisa Salem-Wiseman are both professors in the Department of General Arts and Science, where they teach a student success course designed to help disengaged students enrolled in preparatory programs to develop the necessary “soft skills” to be successful at the postsecondary level.

Note: A link will be provided to registrants 24 hours before the webinar.

Many of us perform much of our work in sitting in front of a computer. The human body is generally not designed to sit for extended periods of time or to perform repetitive tasks on the computer. A safe and comfortable workstation is essential in reducing and preventing strain on our muscles and joints, and help reduce fatique, headaches and enhance productivity.

Come to this informative session as it will:

  • Introduce the concept of ergonomics.
  • Describe the types of risk factors that pertain to an office computer workstation.
  • Show you how to set up a safe, healthy and comfortable workstation.
  • Provide an overview of good work practices that can prevent or minimize injury and discomfort.

To register for this and other workshops, please go to www.humber.ca/ssaw/spring-2014 and log in to set up your account. You will be sent an email to create your password. Then log back in and select the courses you wish to attend.
