Lecture Synopsis: Echo - Creative Accidents

The building code does not entertain probability; it prescribes. This quintessential compendium provides more than requirements for health and safety. It highlights an undercurrent of obsession with finite control in a domain as creative or unpredictable as architecture. Challenging this paradox of certain uncertainty, Echo is an array of projects that were conceived and developed through accidents and observations. This talk aims to demonstrate the significance of creative accidents and that they are blessings in disguise.
Yiu-Bun Chan, M.Arch - Personal Bio

Yiu-Bun trained in piano performance in Canada, before completing auditory spatial research at RMIT University (Melbourne) and receiving his Master of Architecture from the University of Waterloo. Yiu-Bun’s background in music and architecture has provided foundation for his sound and light installations, which have been honoured with the Master Works Prize (Cambridge Galleries) and the Artifact Award (OAA). His paper on parametric architecture and aleatory music was published in May 2014 by the Centre for American Architecture and Design. Yiu-Bun lives in Toronto where he works as a consultant in art procurement and architecture.

In the midst of exams and final projects, recharge your brain with a little bit of self reflection and art-making!

Humber's gallery is getting ready for the exhibition, "Picture This", December 2nd to 18th. The exhibition will allow visitors to come into the space and answer questions from the Proust Questionnaire through art and craft.

To help fill the gallery space, we are looking for faculty, staff, students, and community partners to submit photographs, drawings, videos, and other multi-media projects. These works will be exhibited in the gallery during "Picture This".

Please forward to your networks and students. The deadline for submissions is November 28th by 5pm. In-person submissions will be displayed on the wall, while digital submissions will be played through a projection.
