Want to bring the world of work into your classrooms?
Want to engage your students in deeper learning?

Learn how to adapt the Case Study Method traditionally used in MBA programs to your teaching here at Humber and reap the benefits of using cases to stimulate critical thinking while allowing your students to apply new concepts immediately to real-world situations. In this three-day workshop, we will cover what cases are, how to run a case class and how to design a syllabus that includes cases. The sessions will be interactive and there will be homework. Teachers from all schools and programs, as well as those teaching online and hybrid courses, are welcome!

Through visual storytelling, Humber’s faculty and staff will bring to light the experiences, strategies, and sources of inspiration that have informed their ongoing journey as mentors and learners. Their stories are paired with brilliant original artwork by Humber student artist Nazia Habiba. The exhibition will run from May 20 to June 20, 2014, in conjunction with Doors Open Toronto and Humber Showcase 2014.

The reception is to be held in the gallery on June 9, 2014,  6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and is free to attend.

In this workshop participants will focus on the personal perspective, the whole message, and environment. The activities are specifically designed to give participants “Aha!” moments of self-discovery and increased self-awareness that make for empathic listening.

Come to this enlightening course to:

  • Discover how the “Other” perspective shapes the emphasis and meaning of the message in conversation.
  • Focus on how to listen for the whole message by being attentive to tone and body language.
  • Explore effective listening strategies in all three scenarios by focusing attention on the environment.

This course applies to the Professional Communications Certificate and ends at 12noon.

To register for this and other courses, please go to www.humber.ca/ssaw/spring-2014 and log in to create your account. Once you log in you will receive an email to create your password. Then log in again to register using this login.
