Join us as for a
literary reading by John L. Steckle.  John will read from his latest book, The Eighteenth-Century Wyandot: A Clan-Based Study.

Author Comment

“My favourite quotation from the American author John Steinbeck goes like this: ‘All my life has been aimed at one book, and I haven’t started it yet.  The rest has all been practice (letter written to John Murphy, 12 June 1961).  For me, this just might be that one book.”

Reviewer Commentary:

John Steckley`s detailed research on the Wyandot/Wendat clan system is the culmination of a lifetime pursuit to unearth and untangle the complicated history of North America’s Indigenous peoples.  This book is a goldmine for all those interested in exploring the organic and evolutionary nature of First Nations communities and will contribute greatly to our understanding of Indigenous strategies of resistance and survival against colonial regimes

Students, when receiving advice about program and career choices, hear again and again that they need to “find their passion”, but they don’t really understand what that means. They can all tell you that their passion is something they love to do, but that alone doesn’t help them choose a path. How can we help them gain greater clarity? This presentation examines what passion for the work really means and how we and our students can connect our passions with our education and work. Along the way we’ll look at the connection between problem solving and passion, how to use your passion to create a context for your learning, and why what frustrates you is as important as what you love.
