Building assessments into Blackboard can become rather time consuming, but there is a workaround! Beginning this fall, Humber is proud to provide their faculty with a campus-wide license of Repondus. Fully compatible with Blackboard, Respondus is a premiere exam authoring tool that allows faculty to preview questions before publishing them to the LMS, publish assessments directly to Blackboard, create single exams or exam pools, as well as print exams and save files to MS Word.

We at the Humber North Campus Writing Centre are excited to announce our Fall 2013 Book Club event, open to any and all students, faculty, and staff. We will be featuring Ayelet Tsabari's collection of short stories, The Best Place on Earth. The event will also include an "après-launch" of A Recipe for Disaster & Other Unlikely Tales of Love, a collection of stories by Eufemia Fantetti.

Both Ayelet Tsabari and Eufemia Fantetti will be attending!

The Best Place on Earth illustrates the lives of those whose identities swing from fiercely patriotic to powerfully global, exploring Israeli history as it illuminates the tenuous connections—forged, frayed and occasionally destroyed—between cultures, between generations and across the gulf of transformation and loss. The tales are peopled with characters at the crossroads of nationalities, religions, and communities.

Funny, tender and poignant, A Recipe for Disaster is populated by quirky characters who blend desire, imperfect love and comfort food into the sweet and salty mix of daily life while they yearn for the sustenance of human connection. Six skillful and witty stories that will engage your heart.

Copies of The Best Place on Earth will be available for purchase in the Humber Bookstore. Attendees may purchase and read a copy before the event, but all are welcome to come whether or not they have read the book. A Recipe for Disaster is set to be launched on November 21st. The event will include a reading by the author.

If you are interested in attending the event, email Writing Centre tutor and MFA Danica Fogarty at danica.fogarty@humber.ca, or join the Facebook event.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Many of us perform much of our work in front of a computer. The human body is generally not designed to sit for extended periods of time or to perform repetitive tasks on the computer. A safe and comfortable workstation is essential in reducing and preventing strain on our muscles and joints.

This session will:

  • Introduce the concept of ergonomics.
  • Describe the types of risk factors that pertain to an office computer workstation.
  • Show you how to set up a safe, healthy and comfortable workstation.
  • Provide an overview of good work practices that can prevent or minimize injury and discomfort.
