This session will introduce faculty to the case method and how Humber is adapting it for our students. We’ll use a short case to demonstrate the 3-part method and then discuss how cases can be integrated into non-traditional disciplines. We’ll also talk about resources Humber has to support case teaching. Bring your questions, curiosity and enthusiasm for student-centered learning!

In many of today’s higher education institutions, technology has a ubiquitous presence and this is driven by the aggressive growth of mobile technologies. From a student perspective, students try to use technologies to restructure and improve their learning experiences. From a faculty perspective, faculty members try to create innovative, pedagogically sound teaching experiences using different technologies. In the case of the tablet, these ultra-light, multi-functional computers allow faculty to incorporate unique software (apps) into their classrooms and distinctive teaching methods using the features of tablets.
Using the iPad tablet, this workshop will explore the basic functionality of tablets while exploring some of the more intriguing applications/apps that faculty can integrate into their teaching methods.

Colloquium is an exhibition representing the diverse artistic practices of Humber College's Visual and Digital Arts faculty. Drawing from the gamut of analogue and digital methods that reflects the plurality of contemporary Canadian art, this exhibition reveals the formal and critical concerns of faculty members who are both mentors and contemporaries to emergent student-artists on campus. The exhibition showcases works that confront issues of representation, abstraction, academic practice, popular culture, the body, and identity. Colloquium brings to the fore the artist's struggle to define oneself in an age of rapid technological expansion, wherein a reverence for the past—the laborious, handmade, and corporeal—appears contrasted against the present—the accelerated, mediated, and virtual. Refuting this apparent divide, the faculty of the Visual and Digital Arts Program offer a unique glimpse into the technical and conceptual versatility of today's artist-educators.
Time: 4:20 p.m. - 5:10 p.m.
In this workshop a number of useful, fun and, most importantly, free utilities that instructors can use in the classroom, will be explored.
Freeware enables faculty to create dynamic classroom lectures, robust online content and engaging assignments by using free, tested, stable software. Spend an hour with a member of the eLearning team as we explore how free software can enhance your teaching experiences.

Writing a test or exam requires skill and technique! In this helpful workshop, students will discuss their current approach to writing exams and what they want to improve. Looking at different types of tests (multiple choice, short answer and essay format) and identifying strategies for each of them is an important skill students can gain.
