Collage of images featuring brightly painted river rocks

Join the Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Centre for free, drop-in paint nights every Wednesday evenings in June from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The heart of Our Community Rocks is to spread kindness, celebrate community, and support the environment.

Paint your rocks with a message or picture that demonstrates all the ways that our community rocks! These could be values such as nature, friendship, togetherness, hope, strength, or innovate your own to express what is important to you as a community member and what values you believe are important to the Lakeshore Grounds community.

The painted rocks will be on display from May through June 2022 to demonstrate the creativity, kindness, and innovation our community holds. After the display is complete, rocks will be carried to the shore to restore and rebuild the shoreline, contributing to sustaining the natural and built environments we share. We welcome all ages, skills levels, and creativity to contribute to the community mosaic project.

Together we create; build; restore.

LGBTQ+ Resource Centre and 2SLGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group (ERG) at Humber celebrate Pride Month in June 2022. We honour the identities and self-expression of two-spirited, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and intersex members of our community, students, staff, and faculty.

We are committed to honoring the historical roots of the Pride Parade. Pride Parades are a legacy of brave political struggles of the 2SLGBTQIA+ movement since the 1960s against heteronormative societal structures as well as state and police orchestrated violence. These struggles, led by queer and trans people of colour, established a foundation for larger-scale cultural changes and better protection of 2SLGBTQIA+ communities under the law. As we celebrate Pride, we remember that a lot has been achieved, and more remains to be done to create a just and equitable society free from discrimination and prejudice.

We celebrate queer communities of colour, migrant 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, trans, intersex, and disabled queer folks who still navigate intersectional barriers in their everyday lives. We also acknowledge that Pride takes place on Indigenous lands. We believe that reclaiming Indigenous two-spirit identities and traditions is central to the ongoing process of reconciliation and decolonization of LGBTQ+ movements.

We invite the Humber community to contribute and join Humber’s 2SLGBTQ+ ERG & The LGBTQ+ Resource Centre for the Annual Pride and Trans Flag Raising. The flag-raising is a symbolic representation of Humber’s support for 2SLGBTQ+ students, staff, faculty, and the broader community.

This event is open to all students, staff, faculty, administration, and community members. It will be approximately 30 minutes and during this time there will be speakers from 2SLGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group, Student Success & Engagement, Humber administration, IGNITE, and students.

We hope to see you there!
