What?
As part of the preparatory works for the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) line, crews have been working on the portal excavation in the vicinity of Finch Avenue West, Highway 27, and Humber College Boulevard.
As the work progresses, traffic staging will be changed, and more lanes will be open in the area as shown above. The work is scheduled for March 2022, approximately and will be done sequentially, starting with the intersection of Humber College Boulevard and Highway 27.
Sidewalks and crosswalks may be closed periodically. Minor field modifications will occur when needed to complete work safely and minimize impact on the public.
There will be a Paid Duty Officer, flaggers, and detour signs to direct traffic, as needed.
WORK HOURS:
- Work will primarily occur Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. There may be overnight and/or weekend work, if needed.
- Signs are installed to keep local residents informed about the closure.

- Inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances may delay work activities.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- Heavy trucks and equipment in the area.
- Due to the nature of the work, at times there will be dust, noise and vibration associated with this work.
- Nearby businesses and residents can expect noise from excavators, bobcats, vacuum trucks and other construction equipment caused by road work activities.
- Expect delays near work zones.
PEDESTRIAN, TPAFFIC AND TRANSIT DETAILS:
- Road and sidewalk restrictions are in place within the construction area to protect workers and the public.
- Pedestrians will be re-routed around the construction area when possible. For safety reasons, pedestrians may be diverted to the sidewalk on the opposite side.
- In the event of any parking restrictions, advanced notice will be provided.
- Expect short-term lane closures of the curb lanes in the area.
- Access to schools, churches, and businesses will be maintained, unless otherwise communicated.
- Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.
- TTC bus stops in the affected area may be relocated for the safety of transit riders. Please watch for posted signs indicating the adjusted locations.
- Relocation and re-routing of bus stops are done in consultation with TTC to ensure construction can continue safely while minimizing impact on the community and customers.
