I am pleased to announce John Stilla as the new Senior Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences, effective April 11.
John has been an Associate Dean with the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences since 2019 and has provided innovative leadership to advance Humber’s strategic and academic plans. He brings a forward-thinking and collaborative approach to enhance the student experience and deepen relationships within the Faculty, across Humber and with our industry and community partners.
John has created departmental hubs and engaged faculty to advance EDI integration into curriculum, pedagogy, and assessments in his current role. He has also worked across the college to develop departmental learning outcomes in alignment with the HLOs to promote a quality culture and allow students to articulate their skills development.
Before joining Humber, John was the Chair of English and Liberal Studies at Seneca College, where he successfully implemented several transformational initiatives to enhance student retention and success. In addition, John has also taught at Seneca, Sheridan and Humber and served as the Program Coordinator in Humber’s Department of English.
With over 12 years of experience in the education sector, John has a solid commitment to the values of Humber, innovation, EDI, Indigenous education, and polytechnic education. His leadership and student-centred approach will continue to help the college achieve its strategic goals.
John holds a Master’s degree in English from the University of Guelph, and he is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Higher Education, with a focus on educational leadership. He also Chairs the Heads of Interdisciplinary Studies for Ontario Colleges and is TESL Certified.
