It is with mixed emotions that I announce Dr. Stephen Allen has accepted the position of Director, International Education & English Language Institute at York University. His last day at Humber will be July 1.
During his time at Humber, Stephen has led a number of initiatives in the areas of ESL, teacher education, and international partnerships. Notable achievements include the successful launch and development of an ESL partnership with Kansai Gaidai University in Japan and collaboration with Humber’s International Development Institute to consult on educational technology implementation and develop a course on Content Based Education and Training methodology. Stephen also co-led the development of two eCampusOntario-funded projects with Seneca College: ODELLO and SPELL, which support students and instructors, respectively, in language learning. He has also provided leadership for the launch of the Centre of Education, Language and Professional Practice, and he has been involved in supporting Humber’s collaborative framework for continuous professional learning (CPL) while providing students with a number of international CPL opportunities.
I would like to take this time to sincerely thank Stephen for his commitment to Humber over the last 10 years and for the contributions he has made to the Faculty of Liberal Arts & Sciences through the various roles he has held, including Director of the English Language Centre, Acting Associate Dean for the Department of English, and most recently, Associate Dean, Continuous Professional Learning.
Please join me in congratulating Stephen as he moves on to this next exciting stage of his career.
John Stilla, MA, OCELT (he/him/his)
