The Humber College and University of Guelph-Humber community is saddened to learn of the massive earthquake and aftershocks that devastated Turkey and Syria on February 6. The death and destruction caused by the earthquake is not confined to Turkey and Syria. Family, friends and relatives in our community and city are also experiencing loss and trauma as a result of the death and destruction caused by the earthquake.
While the impacts of this natural disaster are still unfolding and rescue efforts continue, our collective thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones or who are anxiously awaiting news of the safety of loved ones. We are here to provide support to students and staff who may need assistance during this difficult time.
- If you are looking for mental health counselling, you can contact the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre for support.
- You can also connect with the Centre for Human Rights, Equity and Inclusion.
- GoodToTalk (1-866-925-5454) is a 24-hour mental health support for Post-Secondary Students in Ontario.
- Therapy Assist Online.
- Keep.meSAFE offers linguistically and culturally diverse mental health support for Humber International students.
- Staff are encouraged to access Employee Assistance Plan services or to connect with their manager for support as needed.
An email with a list of supports was sent to students earlier today. At times like this, there is a role we can all play in supporting students who are impacted. This might take the form of academic flexibility or a reminder of the range of resources available.
Thank you for supporting our students and each other during this time.
