In response to student and staff feedback, the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centres (SWAC) at Humber Polytechnic's North and Lakeshore campuses are excited to announce the introduction of extended hours for the wall and winter terms. Beginning Monday, September 9, students will now have access to a broad range of wellness services from 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.
This change is about more than simply adjusting hours—it’s about addressing the real barriers learners face. Over the last two years, students have consistently shared the challenges they encounter in accessing support: 87 per cent reported conflicts with class schedules, 50 per cent cited work obligations, and 38 per cent pointed to commuting difficulties. Nearly half (46 per cent) of students who used our services expressed that extended hours and evening appointments would allow them to continue utilizing these essential resources.
We listened, and we’re taking action.
By extending our hours, we’re not just offering more time; we’re expanding access to the care and support that enables learners to succeed. Whether it’s accessible learning services, health care, mental health support, or peer wellness coaching, students will now have more flexibility to access what they need, when they need it.
This initiative is a collaboration with IGNITE, who are strong partners and advocates for making services more accessible. Together, we’re committed to creating a campus environment that supports well-being for all.
By aligning our hours more closely with students’ schedules, we hope to break down these barriers and foster a healthier, more resilient campus community.
