Dr. Rebecca Milburn

It is with great pleasure that I announce that Dr. Rebecca Milburn has accepted the position of Associate Dean, Preparatory Programs and Mathematics in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences, effective Monday, August 13, 2012.

Rebecca began her career at Humber over ten years ago in the School of Applied Technology where she held progressive leadership roles within the engineering program cluster and culminating as Program Coordinator in the Chemical Engineering Technology Program.

In 2009, she joined the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences as a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics where she quickly expanded her research interests and began to focus her attention on assisting under-prepared students. In January 2011, she assumed the position of Program Coordinator in the General Arts and Science program area responsible for the Health, Science and Technology Certificate program.

Rebecca holds a PhD. in chemistry from York University and has also earned a graduate degree in Education from Central Michigan University where she focused her studies on predictors of student success. She has earned several research grants at Humber, most recently a SSHRC Institutional Grant with Jean Choi and Brett Reynolds, to continue her work on student success and to assist under-prepared students.

Rebecca is a highly dedicated teacher who believes that developing interdisciplinary curriculum promotes creativity and further develops critical thinking skills that are essential to future career success. Her extensive experience inside the classroom teaching in mathematics and science, combined with her expertise leading curriculum development that is both reflective and responsive to changing student and industry needs will allow her to bring that academic leadership necessary to this diverse portfolio.

On behalf of the entire LAS community, let me say that we look forward to working with Rebecca on many exciting, new initiatives that will increase the capacity of our General Arts and Science, Mathematics and Academic Upgrading departments to provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to continue their educational journeys at Humber and abroad.

Please join me in congratulating Rebecca and welcoming her to her new role.
