Indigenous Cultural Marker Installations Begin February 27

Humber is in the process of installing Indigenous Cultural Markers for both North and Lakeshore campuses. The development of the markers and the related stories has been led and told by indigenous voices, including our Elder Shelley Charles, our Aboriginal Education Council Elders, our communities and our students.

These markers will be prominent and will place Humber in the context of the long history of indigenous peoples in our region. Installation will take place at three locations – the Centre for Technology Innovation at the North campus, and two sites at Lakeshore, including the Student Welcome and Resource Centre (SWRC) and the L Building green space – from late February through the summer. Timely notification will be provided if access to buildings or spaces is altered.

SWRC installation will begin the week of February 26th and will continue until March 23rd. While building access will be available, perimeter fencing will be set up and landscape work will continue on an ongoing basis, pending weather and plant availability.

I look forward to their unveiling this spring and fall, and to the stories that they will tell our current community and future generations who have a relationship with Humber.
