She is a very introverted person, and I wanted to capture her in her most natural element; In the quietest place she can find. The composition is similar to James Abbott McNeill Whistler's Mother painting, however the style of my piece is more abstracted. I wanted this piece to have a nice balance between realism and abstraction to give it a good sense of energy and visual fluidity. My reference picture was taken against a wall with built in cubbies and square framed paintings which inspired me to make the painting unusually long to emphasize those geometric shapes. 2022 Chesley Davis Humber Visual and Digital Arts Lakeshore Faculty/Staff 07-03-2022 Yes Second Place

The other 2 frames are supposed to be more bubbles and represent the problems facing anyone. The idea is that anyone can lighten their burdens with each step. The idea of the ink itself was inspired by stained glass. Drowning is a painting made on Duralar paper. 2022 Charlemagne Soriano Visual and Digital Arts Lakeshore Faculty/Staff, Email 07-03-2022

When I went to shoot an Indian event in Fergus, I got to see this little girl dressed up fully in my traditional dress(Telugu traditional look, India) and slept due to tiredness. This image comes from knowing that sometimes we have to shut in our inner child, chin up, and make tough decisions. It could be cutting off that long overdue relationship that you've spent your life building even though you knew it wasn't healthy for you, like a child who loves consuming candies when too much of it only leads to diabetes. The more we grow, the more we learn, the more we hide our childish ways from voicing out. 2023 Bukola Adebamiro Photography North Faculty/Staff, Word of Mouth 07-03-2022

I find in those in-between shots, a spark is captured and a genuine moment is frozen in time. In these moments, I find, the true essence of the individual is highlighted. This image captures just that and is even more special because I have no other photo like it. With photographers wrestling to get a few shots in, I decided to shoot through another photographer's arm, and this allowed me to frame my model. The frame adds depth and draws the viewer in. The soft focus and slight grain of the photo give it a vintage editorial look. Editing this photo to be in black and white was the final touch that brings this image to life. I find black and white images highlight details that can easily be overlooked. It gives the viewer a chance to truly take in the photo on a deeper, more intimate level. I don't just take photos for photography's sake, but I want my photos to evoke a mood or a feeling. This photo evokes curiosity as well as an overwhelming sense of meekness. I find the softness of the hand position, body language, and vulnerable expression creates a storyline; making you yearn to know more about the background of the individual on a personal level. You’re left wanting to know their true essence. 2023 Ella Ricketts Photography North Faculty/Staff 07-03-2022

There's artwork on the walls that help establish that this is a skating area and also says that the city of Mississauga cares about the skating community. ultimately I took this because In a usually crowded and energetic area, during the winter time, It becomes quiet and peaceful. In a place where energy and music bounce off the walls, wind drifts through. Where skaters would fill this small area, they are replaced by snow and left behind is artworks that show what this small area means to others, to the skating community. As we start to transition into spring this place will be filled again. 2023 Gabriel Noda Journalism North Humber TV 07-03-2022

The expansion of Mohrakashi at this time gave rise to the Sikh school of art, with frescoes dominated by floral and foliage themes influenced by the Kangra school of painting. The stone pigments in a water-based solution are carried inside the plaster and set as the plaster dries, producing incredibly durable artworks that can last thousands of years. Mohrakashi frescoes decorate gurudwaras, temples, cenotaphs, havelis, dharamshalas, and ankharas throughout Punjab and other states of India.
Marigold as my inspiration and together with this traditional technique I created this artwork on handmade paper.

I was inspired and intrigued to use cyanotypes after learning about anthotypes and how natural photography processes work. I chose to do an image of me staring directly into the camera and the viewer as my work tends to focus on portraits of black women and the black gaze. Black people are often viewed from lenses and there have been many accounts in my life where I have been confronted by stares ad glares from society just for simply existing as a black woman. This piece is meant to challenge the viewer as they think they are looking at my self portrait, but really, I am the one holding the power staring back at them. 2022 Georgia Acheampong Visual and Digital Art Lakeshore Faculty/Staff, Email 07-03-2022 Honourable Mention

This piece was about me learning to let go of something I wanted. I had developed feelings for a classmate-represented by the India's national flower, the Lotus-who didn't/couldn't return my feelings. I had struggled to come to terms with the fact that the relationship I wanted wasn't one I could have and so I created this piece as a way to let go of my feelings.
