I felt like I was being forced to see the world in a certain way, like I was being forced to see the world from a certain view and if I tried to look away I could get hurt. I was smiling, which felt forced, to hide my pain. It felt like needles digging into my heart and mind. My reference for this piece was a photo of my aunt back home in Ghana, someone who I really admire and her sense of style reflects her personality. She is very outgoing, fun to be around and energetic and I really wanted the colours of her outfit and headscarf to reflect that. I titled the piece 'Sunday Best"; as the term refers to when someone is dressed in their best clothes, often for special occasions. Here I illustrated my aunt to be in her "Sunday Best" as she is someone that I know loves to look and feel their best. A vision in which how you perceive the world around you can change fundamentally. The images I chose for the Humber Art Show display a mood that is uninviting and moody. The first image is what I would describe as a feeling of vertigo, the fear of the unknown, and the second image further pushes that feeling of unease into genuine horror. I was inspired by the idea of relationships and how they can sometimes become strained. The girl walking away could represent a sense of distance or disconnect in the relationship, while the guy standing still could represent the struggle to hold on and keep the relationship together.

Alternatively, the artwork could be inspired by the idea of self-reflection and introspection. The solo person in the middle of the bridge could represent the need to pause and take a moment to reflect on one's life, decisions, and direction.

Francisco de Goya in one of his paintings represented war with a Colossus figure on a battlefield, I try to do an inversion of that by questioning the nature of the titans and the knight in the middle. Everything leaves a trace, even if it does not last. Abstract shadows, the unknown source outside the frame, provide ambiguous traces of their origin. Reality becomes obscured. Imagination and reality intertwine. I thought it was one of the most adorable things I ever watched and wanted to try my hand at it. I tried replicating the artstyle from the popular meme people started drawing around. It's something I wanted to do because at the time I started giving up on art. So this piece of inspiration was important to me. I drew nonstop and once it was finished, I felt accomplished. I didn't draw the background however I drew everything else.
