I was instructed to recreate this famous painting in a different media, so I chose watercolour paint. I wanted to create the small brushstroke flowing movement in my recreation as well so I thought watercolour paint could be fun to use for this and a challenge for myself. This was my second attempt at this painting. This time I reminded myself to be patient and do thin layers of colours and build up. Of course, wait for it to dry so that the layers don’t blend into each other. I used pencil crayons for some enhancements on the stars and moon. I also used a white gel pen to emphasize the movement into the stars and moon. Although, this rendition seems more brighter, like either the bright varying colours in the town or the sky. This painting has its own charm as it is a recreation and the story and reputation of Starry Night and Van Gogh, makes it even more special. 2021 Luxshana Jegarajah Art Foundation Lakeshore Campus Email 07-03-2022

I was drawn to this bust particularly for its portrayal of medusa as a beautiful woman despite having a head full of snakes. The curves and position of the bust make for a really interesting piece. 2021 Patricia Wisniewski Visual and Digital Arts Lakeshore Campus Faculty/Staff 07-03-2022

I tried to find a white object for awhile and finally found a white lighter. I decided to paint it with cadmium red paint because I like how rich it looks and its scale. This painting is very special to me as it was a good learning experience. Even though I know I can learn from it and improve, it never fails to make me feel good when I look at it. My favourite part about it is the background colour and how it contrasts with the subject and pulls the entire painting together. With myths and stories that follow the subject’s reputation, this makes it forgetful in this rendition; Captured in a rich cool red surface, bordering a light pink lighter painted in various shades and tints. Each brushstroke moving with the form of the lighter all in all making it a bold piece that will capture one’s eye. 2021 Luxshana Jegarajah Art Foundation Lakeshore Campus Email 07-03-2022

She encompasses birth, death and the forces of nature - rather different than how she is normally depicted. The inspiration for this piece stems from an ode to my ancestors that were torn apart from their roots during colonial times - my motherland of Ghana. I approached this painting with themes of pain, grief and displacement along with honour. The use of special chosen acrylic and oil paint colours helped represent various aspects of these themes. The blue background is the foundation of the painting that represents the waters that hold many of these lost souls to this day. Those who chose to drown and return to mother earth rather than be enslaved. For some, the blue hues of the sea were the final images engrained after being violently uprooted from the land, cultures and world they once knew to be home. The red represents the blood of those who lost their lives fighting for liberation from colonizers. These two colours helped me bring to life my themes of pain, grief and displacement. To juxtapose those ideas, I wanted to bring forth colours that would highlight and represent pride and honour. For centuries, the beautiful black and brown tones of my people have always been demonized and weaponized against us, so by incorporating jet black acrylic and oil paints, I wanted to exaggerate the importance of representing black skin and loving this skin in a world that is fixated on dehumanizing us. The use of yellow along with the gold Bamboo Earring used as a septum, embodies the gold that lies beneath the land of Ghana. This mineral is very precious to the people of my motherland because gold is representative of royalty, and it acts as a symbol of warmth and continuous life. So though the faces of these souls may be lost, their legacy will forever live. These colours come together to create the mosaic of faces within faces that depict the lost, but never forgotten souls of the Land of Gold. The motherland. An ode to home and the souls of the land. Ghana.

In my opinion, it ruins most plans, and you can never really produce a great day when it is raining. Your fit? All the way ruined. Another thing about me is, I love cars, high on my list of favourites is the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon. Seeing one on this rainy Sunday downtown reminded me that I should see the best in the bad, as this car always sparks my motivation. I wanted to study underpainting with gouache paint, so I intentionally left parts of the portrait with some of the original underpainting still showing through. The portrait is inspired by old photographs, I used mostly brown tones for the subject to convey that, with a nice contrasting blue to give it a bit of life. This lady looks like she would be named Mathilde so I have named her accordingly. 2022 Patricia Wisniewski Visual and Digital Arts Lakeshore Campus Faculty/Staff 07-03-2022

It will be extremely beneficial if, whenever we are in need, there is someone who will be there to guide us through this journey.
Whether in the form of help, love, or even a single word. This thought inspired me for this work.

It's strange how we never take any inspiration from anything positive that might have transpired before the darkness arrived, we only think about it with sad longing. I know sunsets lead to darkness, but why do they have to be sad? This question inspired me to create this artwork. I clicked this picture so that I could always think about the happy moments I spent even if they were followed by something sad. The future is unknown, but past has been lived in and adds another dimension to staying motivated in the present. 2021 Siasat Singh Photography North Campus Faculty/Staff 07-03-2022

Madhubani is a traditional Indian folk art painting style that is done using figures and vibrant colors along with huge eyes being the key elements. My inspiration for this was a recent wedding I had attended back in India before moving to Canada. It was the nostalgia of missing home along with the love for traditional Indian folk art that inspired me to draw this. Also, I wish to introduce this style of painting to the vast audience here in Canada. 2022 Shalaka Deodhar Global Business Management Lakeshore Campus Email 07-03-2022

The pandemic gave us ample time to think and reflect, one such moment inspired me to create this artwork. This photograph was clicked at a time when my thoughts kept circling back to how life could have been, had the pandemic not changed my plans. This one photo made me realize the similarity between thoughts and shadows. Thoughts are to an adult what shadows are to a child. A child struggles to gather their shadow, an adult struggles to gather their thoughts. The lesson that this photo taught me was to not commit the mistake of becoming entrapped in this game and to let life take its course. We all have something to be grateful for. 2022 Siasat SIngh Photography North Campus Faculty/Staff, Email 07-03-2022
