Training program for careers in vertical farming

Humber Polytechnic with workforce development organization ACCES Employment is offering a 16-week program for those looking to grow their careers in the vertical farming industry.

The program, funded by Upskill Canada (powered by Palette Skills) and the Government of Canada, is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed in the field of vertical farming. This involves various techniques for growing crops in a controlled environment.

Teachers go back to the classroom at Humber to learn machine shop basics

More than a dozen teachers from across the GTA spent two days at Humber Polytechnic’s North Campus where they received machine shop training.

The training was for elementary and high school teachers looking to enhance their skills in shop programs, technology and skilled trades teachers, and robotics mentors.  

Students and industry benefit from Centre for Skilled Trades and Technology expansion

Humber Polytechnic is meeting the needs of the changing and in-demand skilled trades industry with the expansion and renovation of the Centre for Skilled Trades and Technology.

The $9.5 million expansion has added 500 skilled trades training opportunities for pre-apprenticeship, apprenticeship and post-secondary students along with improved quality of education and facility upgrades.  

Excellence on display at WorldSkills

A Humber Polytechnic student and a recent graduate have earned a Medallion for Excellence at the WorldSkills Competition.

Paxton Coghlin and Dillon Kong proudly represented Humber on the international stage as they competed against some of the best challengers from around the globe at the 47th WorldSkills Competition, which was held in Lyon, France. Competing in the Mechatronics division, the two were awarded the medallion.

Carson Arthur credits Humber Polytechnic for getting his start in television.

Arthur, a landscape designer, television host, author and owner of Carson’s Garden and Market, is a 2004 graduate of the Landscape Technician program.

Humber students have returned from the Skills Canada National Competition triumphant with a gold and silver medal.

The annual competition gives students an opportunity to show off the skills they've learned in their programs as they compete against their peers from across the country in complex challenges designed to showcase their expertise in various sectors. This year’s competition was held in Quebec City.

Pull up a chair and get comfortable

Students in Humber College’s Bachelor of Industrial Design program showcased their innovative chair designs as part of the annual Industrial Design Chair Show.

The 2024 event was held on March 12 at the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation and was the public exhibition of the second-year Industrial Design students’ studio chair project. The learners’ creations addressed the evolving nature of commercial workspaces and the need for seating solutions outside of a conventional workstation.
