Humber students impress industry professionals at Bachelor of Industrial Design program’s Class of 2022 Thesis Show

For the first time in two years, Humber’s Bachelor of Industrial Design program was able to host the Thesis Show for its graduating class in person.

Humber students put their skills to the test in 2022 Virtual Skills Ontario Competition

From April 19 to 29, Humber students once again demonstrated that they’re among Ontario’s best in their respective fields at the 2022 Virtual Skills Ontario Competition.

This competition is the largest skilled trades and technologies events in Canada and helps recognize the importance of skilled trades and technology careers while promoting them as a top option for students. For the second year in a row, the province-wide competition was hosted virtually.  

This Humber program will prepare learners for advanced manufacturing jobs in just 19 weeks 

A new, provincially funded micro-credentials course at Humber will equip workers with the advanced manufacturing skills necessary to get hired and progress in the industry – quickly. The funding provided by the Ontario government enables learners to apply for OSAP. 

Interior Design prof and students design entrepreneurship hub in the Maldives – from the GTA 

A year ago, Humber College’s Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology (FAST) was tapped by an international client to design an Entrepreneurship Incubation Centre called HIVE. 

The brief came from the government of Maldives through the Maldives Enhancing Employability and Resilience of Youth (MEERY) program.  

Province funds Humber rapid mental health upskilling programs for COVID-19 frontline health workers 

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected everyone differently, but many individuals are struggling mentally. According to the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA), 74 per cent of Ontarians are experiencing more mental health and addiction challenges since the spring of 2020. 

As a result, the strain on frontline workers and employers who want to ensure employee wellness also increased. 

Humber College partners with Accelerate Her Future

Olatoke Adeboboye had so much to offer the world, but she needed support in recognizing it after graduating from Humber College's Project Management certificate program. 

With an undergraduate degree in political science and a master's degree in international relations, Adeboboye felt she needed another credential to excel in a changing workforce. The program increased her knowledge of industry 4.0, project management and tech.

Another strong showing for Humber at Skills Canada Competition 

Humber’s Skills teams have another medal to add to their bulging trophy case.   

On June 15, Faculty of Applied Science and Technology (FAST) students Nikolas de Boer and Mark Gunja won gold at Skills Canada

They topped the Mechatronics Post-Secondary category at the Virtual National Competition. 

Carrier Drive expansion increases opportunities for skilled trades education at Humber

Humber’s skilled trade programs are about to get a boost. 

The Centre for Skilled Trades and Technology – 110 Carrier Drive – is undergoing a $9.5 million expansion. The Carrier Drive location houses simulated worksites, including electrical labs, renovation labs, a woodworking lab and a plumbing shop.
