Humber College students have built and programmed a robot that can sort recycling materials and are using it to get the next generation interested in technology.

DEWALT is helping Humber College students in the skilled trades thanks to a partnership and $300,000 donation that will be used for scholarships, tools for students and additional meaningful supports.
 
Guests and dignitaries gathered at the Humber Centre for Skilled Trades and Technology on February 15 to officially kick off the partnership and celebrate the gift. The guests connected with Humber leadership and enjoyed a tour of the Centre and DEWALT’s new recognition plaque following the announcement.
 

There were big smiles, warm embraces and more than a few happy tears as the Humber community celebrated the achievements of its graduating class at Fall 2022 Convocation.

The Toronto Congress Centre welcomed the more than 1,900 graduating students, their families and loved ones to celebrate the moment in-person. The graduation ceremonies were also livestreamed for those who wanted to attend but couldn’t.

The occasion was a memorable one for President and CEO Dr. Ann Marie Vaughan, who was presiding over her first convocation since joining Humber.  

Following a decade of giving to Humber College, the BOLT Charitable Foundation continues to strengthen its commitment to students by providing funding for four annual scholarships.

A recent 3M study found that 96 per cent of Canadians agree the workforce needs more skilled trade workers and that 92 per cent believe there’s a lot of opportunity in the skilled trades.  

However, 76 per cent said they would never pursue a skilled trade for themselves.  

A pair of Humber College students claimed first place in a design competition with a device that encourages children to get active when their smartphone or tablet is charging.  

A group of Humber College students have captured first place and the $10,000 grand prize that comes with it in an annual design competition that tasked entrants with creating a fully electric, autonomous concept vehicle designed for Canadians with a disability.

Humber College continues its efforts to protect and support pollinators and the important role they play in the ecosystem by planting a third pollinator garden at North Campus.

The college was recognized for its work to support pollinators after receiving a Bee Campus designation from Bee City Canada last year. Humber is just one of 11 post-secondary institutions in the province to have achieved the designation that requires a commitment to creating and improving pollinator habitat as well as education outreach about the importance of pollinators.

Think about all the natural resources in our world and take a guess at what’s the second most consumed.

If there’s one part of her gold-medal winning performance in the Pâtisserie and Confectionery division at the Skills Canada National Competition that stands out to Emma Kilgannon, it would be her chocolate showpiece.
