Joint Committees & Groups:

Union-College Committees (UCCs): In the interest of ongoing collaboration and resolution, Humber College has active Union College Committees for the Academic Employees and Support Staff Bargaining Units. The UCCs are comprised of an equal number of representatives from both the Union and the College.

  • Academic (FT & PL): Matters to be discussed include the local application of the Collective Agreement; clarification of procedures or conditions causing misunderstanding or grievances; an internal complaint process to facilitate the resolution of employee complaints (unrelated to grievances, arbitrations and workload); other matters which are mutually agreed upon.
  • FT Support: Matters subject to local discussion include the local application of the Collective Agreement including work schedules, workload, and overtime; clarification of procedures or conditions causing misunderstanding or grievances including meeting facilities; employment equity programs; equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) programs; employment stability; Indigenous commitment; other matters which are mutually agreed upon.
  • PT Support: The Committee meets six (6) times per calendar year, unless the parties agree otherwise. Items discussed at UCC meetings exclude matters that are the subject of a formal grievance. At Humber, the parties have agreed to host the FT and PT Support UCC meetings jointly.

Workload Monitoring Group (WMG) – Full-time Academic Only: To provide each teacher with an understanding of their teaching assignments and workload in each term, a Standard Workload Form (SWF) is prepared. Prior to the establishment of a total workload for any teacher the supervisor discusses the proposed workload with the teacher. If the teacher is not in agreement with the total workload and wishes for it to be reviewed, the review is completed by the Workload Monitoring Group. The WMG is comprised of an equal number of representatives from both the Union and the College.

Joint Occupational Health & Safety Committees (JOHSCs): Each of Humber’s local JOHSCs are made up of worker (Faculty and Support Staff) and management (Administration) members who work together to improve health and safety.

Details can be found regarding the JOHSC under Occupational Health & Safety.
