Humber’s Golf Classic is one of the college’s most anticipated events and raises thousands of dollars for student support each year, with over $870,000 raised since 2013.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 tournament was cancelled. However, the need to support students is greater than ever, and supporters and friends of Humber still rallied to the cause.
Although our tournament sponsors and participants were not able to enjoy a round of golf this year, many generously redirected their golf contribution to the Support our Students (SOS) Fund. The SOS Fund supports students who are experiencing unexpected financial hardship – because of COVID-19, requests for emergency bursary support soared to unprecedented levels.
Adam Chandani, national sales manager at Onica, chose to make a personal donation to the SOS Fund in lieu of a golf sponsorship. “I’ve been working with Humber over the last year and a half, and since then, I have been consistently amazed at the dedication and values of a team who are so committed to ensuring the best experience for students,” says Chandani. “Humber is determined to do everything possible to ensure that students are safe and fully enabled to give each of them the best chance at success.”
Lindsey Karpowicz, manager at Ridley Funeral Home, states, “One of our core values at Ridley is helping those in our community. We believe in the strength of community and Humber College is one of our amazing community partners. We are only strong as a community when we help those in need. The Humber SOS Fund is doing great work to help so many students.”
In addition to Chandani and Ridley Funeral Home, golf supporters who redirected their support to the SOS Fund and students in need during this difficult time include BEST Service Pros, Buchanan Technologies, Coca-Cola, Diamond Schmitt Architects, GEN-PRO, Maher Sales Limited, Manulife, Precise Parklink Inc., Sysco, TD Insurance, Toronto Congress Centre, Vertical Spaces, Vretta, Woodbine and Zip Signs.
The tournament always promises a great day of golf and raises much-needed funds to help Humber students to complete their education. Humber is deeply grateful to friends and supporters of the Humber Golf Classic for their contributions to the SOS Fund and for helping to ensure Humber students can overcome challenges and continue their educational journey.
