The Community and Industry Engagement (CIE) Course

The CIE course is designed with the competitive job market in mind, focusing on developing the skills that position our students as leaders in their field, ready to make a significant impact on the global workforce.  This course equips students with future-focused career skills, differentiating themselves in the labour market.  It is structured around the Humber Learning Outcomes (HLO’s), which include essential skills, mindsets and values developed in consultation with industry and community stakeholders – traits that are highly valued by employers.

The CIE course emphasizes professional attributes through the HLO framework, highlighting key mindsets such as Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (EDIB), Sustainability, Systems Thinking, and Indigenous Ways of Being Knowing and Doing (IWBKD).  Critical thinking is the meta-skill that drives the application of these competencies, including collaboration, communication, digital fluency, innovation, leadership, professionalism, and strategic problem-solving.

Industry experts lead sessions in the CIE course, sharing insights on the importance of acquiring and applying these skills in the job search journey and the workplace.  Hearing from industry leaders firsthand, prepares learners for the future of work in an increasingly complex world. Gaining confidence to speak about their proven experience with these skills will support students in their transformational journey of career preparedness, allowing them to navigate their careers with intention and purpose.
