Humber Polytechnic in Toronto, Canada has established North America’s first Broadcast-Broadband Convergence B²C Lab—a world-class industry research center designed to explore multisectoral business applications enabled by the new ATSC 3.0 IP-based television broadcast standard. New data delivery models include broadcasting infotainment and map updates into connected cars, remote education, geo-targeted emergency alerting/information for the public, emergency communication networks for first responders, and delivering nano-second precision time for critical infrastructure and complementary PNT(GPS) service via ATSC 3.0 Broadcast Positioning System.
The COI Network comprises five COIs that focus on key areas of proven strength and industry sector growth, Technology Innovation, Creative Business Innovation, Innovation in Health & Wellness, Entrepreneurship, and Social Innovation. COIs provide an experiential learning environment for Humber students and prepares them to become the innovative and strategic problem-solvers of tomorrow while providing all kinds of organizations the room to innovate and succeed—empowering them to meet the challenges of today’s economy through innovation.
Humber has a network of cutting-edge labs, equipment and facilities to support research and innovation projects. This research infrastructure is used by partners, faculty and students to conduct applied research and foster innovation.
