This past June, Humber Media Studies & IT gathered at the North Campus to celebrate and exhibit the talent produced by our CE Photographic Techniques students. The diverse backgrounds and professions of the students resulted in an extensive assortment of photographs to enjoy during this one-night show.

The exhibit provided not only a visual display of the student’s talent, but a platform for them to share their stories behind each photo as well. Students used techniques learned during class to create their best work and were honoured in their respective categories including Landscape, Portrait, Animals/Wildlife, Documentary/Wedding and Still Life.

The judges scored each of the 150 submissions based on storytelling, technique, colour and impact. The overall winners were chosen from the winning photos in each category.

As mentioned in the April 10 Communiqué, the Government of Canada will discontinue the sale of Canada Savings Bonds (CSBs) purchased through the Payroll Savings Program as of November 2017.

What this means if you are currently enrolled in the Program

  • Your CSB contributions will continue to be deducted from your pay and will go towards your Payroll Savings Plan until October 27, 2017.
  • The funds in your Payroll Savings Plan are safe, guaranteed and will continue to earn interest until redemption or maturity, whichever comes first. If you wish to make a redemption prior to the maturity date, you can do so at any time on CSB Online Services or by using the automated telephone service.
  • As each bond series in your Plan matures, the funds (principal and interest) associated with that series will automatically be paid out to you by cheque or direct deposit, according to the account information currently on file.
  • Go to CSB Online Services to validate your mailing address or sign up for direct deposit to ensure you receive your payment.
  • Once all the bond series in your Plan have been redeemed or paid out, your Plan will be closed.

For more information about this change to CSBs, please visit: csb.gc.ca/payroll-savings-program/employees/about-the-program

If you have any questions, please contact Valerie Bardy, Manager, Payroll at x4223.

Humber College is pleased to announce the launch of the Supply Chain Awareness and Employment Bridging Program for Internationally-trained professionals. While the program begins in August 2017, information sessions are now underway, and applications for the program are currently being accepted.

This unique eight-week Supply Chain Bridging Program is designed specifically for internationally trained professionals with education and experience in supply chain management, business, logistics or purchasing.

Participants will acquire and develop industry-specific technical skills, as well as an understanding of the terminology used in the sector in Canada, and the interpersonal skills being sought after by employers in this field.

Most importantly, every student will have access to an employment advisor as well as a job developer to ensure that they build connections with hiring employers and are positioned to secure employment in the supply chain sector upon graduation.

Learn more about this program: newtocanada.humber.ca/bridging-programs/scape.html

The Supply Chain Awareness and Employment bridging program is funded by the Government of Ontario and the Government of Canada.

Bring a Leadership Workshop into your Classroom or Student Training!

Did you know that Student Life’s Leadership Program offers leadership workshops by request?

The Workshop By Request Program allows staff and faculty to easily request leadership workshops to be facilitated in the classroom or student training sessions by a professional staff member. Staff and faculty can select from the list of available workshop offerings, including:

  • Personal Values & Ethics
  • Leading Others & Group Dynamics
  • Conflict Management
  • Professionalism
  • Assertive Communication
  • Goal Setting
  • Bringing in the Bystander*

This is a great opportunity to enhance the curriculum, proactively provide additional skills and tools to students and to emphasize connections between leadership skills and there academic area of study. To create the best learning experience, we highly recommend that the faculty or staff member be present during the workshop to assist in facilitating questions that may arise and aid in bridging content with course material. To best facilitate this, we highly recommend connecting with the Coordinator, Leadership Programs to discuss tailored case studies and expectations for classroom participation during the interactive components.

Not sure if the workshop fits your curriculum or training goals? Staff and faculty can also request some customization of an already offered workshop in order to best fit the student group to which it will be delivered.

* This two hour training program will discuss how we can all play a role as active, positive bystanders and create a community that is safer from sexual and relationship violence. The program teaches bystanders how to safely intervene in instances where an incident may be occurring or where there may be risk. Through in-depth discussion of issues and common scenarios, participants come to understand how they play a part in proactively preventing sexual and relationship violence, and how they can help survivors get the help and support they need.
