With Places to Learn and Grow, you can name a highly visible learning space at Humber that will be seen by generations of students, faculty and staff.

You can inscribe your own name on the plaque, or you can name the space in honour of someone special to you.

This initiative is an easy and affordable way for you to make a difference in the lives of our students through our annual Humber Gives campaign. This means that your gift can be paid over time through payroll deduction while making an impact on thousands of students each year while leaving your mark at Humber.

For example, for as little as $8 per pay period over five years, you can name a study carrel.

Whether you choose to name a study carrel, bench, picnic table or study room, your gift will make a difference to student success by supporting:

  • Scholarships and awards;
  • Bursaries and support for students in need;
  • Equipment, tools, learning resources and spaces;
  • Special initiatives and experiential learning projects; and,
  • Emerging student needs that may arise.

Join us in supporting our students through this new initiative and leave your mark at Humber.

For more information, please contact the Advancement and Alumni office by phone at 416.673.0152 or via email at nameyourspace@humber.ca. You can also find more details, including a listing of available spaces, by visiting humber.ca/nameyourspace.

Humber’s Employment Equity Program - Implementation Steps

Humber College is committed to principles of equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace. The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity is re-establishing the Employment Equity Program at Humber.

Humber voluntarily complies with the Employment Equity Act.

The Implementation of an Employment Equity Program includes the following steps:

  • Step 1: Initiate an employment equity program
  • Step 2-1: Conduct a workforce analysis
  • Step 2-2: Conduct an employment systems review
  • Step 3: Create an employment equity plan
  • Step 4: Establish and sustain an employment equity program
  • Step 5: Produce an annual report

An Employment Equity Program was initiated at Humber several years ago. Along with conducting a Workforce Analysis (Step 2-1), we will be conducting an Employment Systems Review (ESR) (Step 2-2). The main goal of the ESR is to provide a reasonable explanation for any major gaps in representation revealed by the workforce analysis. The ESR review will form the basis for developing Humber’s Employment Equity Plan.

The purpose of an Employment Systems Review is five-fold:

  1. to identify all your human resources systems, policies and practices;
  2. to analyze these systems, policies and practices to determine how they may have a different impact on designated group members compared to those who are not members of a designated group;
  3. to identify which of these systems, policies and practices create barriers;
  4. to provide a basis for corrective action to remove barriers; and
  5. to assess the potential for reasonable accommodation to overcome valid barriers (i.e., barriers that exist because of a bona fide occupational requirement and are consistent with human rights legislation).

The Centre for Human Rights, Equity & Diversity thanks you for helping to build a more inclusive Humber.

After 33 years of exceptional service to Humber College, Sherry Fast has decided to officially retire mid-December 2018. Known to many for her “fast” action, dedication, relationship building and customer service, her presence at the College will surely be missed.

Over the years Sherry has contributed to various departments and initiatives throughout Humber. Sherry started out mailing registration packages in the Registrar’s Office, working in the “Personnel Relations Centre”, supporting the Freedom of Information project, Career Development Project and working as Administrative Assistant in the Human Studies Department. Due to Sherry’s consistent willingness to help in any way she can, many opportunities came Sherry’s way until she finally settled in the salary administration area of Human Resources. Possessing a knack for getting things done along with her wealth of knowledge, Sherry became a main pillar of the Human Resources team and resource for so many across the College.

In 1995, Sherry’s strong customer service focus was recognized when Sherry received the Support Staff Distinguished Service Award for outstanding customer service.

We proudly acknowledge Sherry’s outstanding customer service and dedication to HR and Humber as a whole.

Please join us in wishing Sherry well on her exciting journey ahead.

A reception will be held on:
Tuesday, November 6, 2018
3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
North Campus, The Humber Room
