Empower Your Creativity at CES 2025

The Faculty of Media, Creative Arts & Design and Black Student Support & Engagement are thrilled to announce a unique international opportunity for our students! In January 2025, a select group of students will have the chance to attend the Consumer Electronic Show (CES), the most powerful tech event in the world, in Las Vegas.

About the Trip

From January 7-10, 2025, students will have the chance to explore cutting-edge technology at not only the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) but also Sphere and Omega Mart, providing inspiration to create innovative concepts and prototypes for the Canadian Black History Experience—a performance project led by Clarence Ford, founder of Square Circle, a non-profit organization using circus arts to tell stories.

Clarence will act as a mentor for the students throughout the trip, offering guidance and insight as they develop their ideas. This collaboration not only allows students to immerse themselves in the latest technological innovations but also gives them the opportunity to contribute to a meaningful performance celebrating Canadian Black History.

Why You Should Apply:

  • Exposure to global tech trends and creative industries
  • Direct mentorship from Clarence Ford and leaders in the multi-media industry
  • Hands-on experience in creating innovative prototypes
  • Potential Work Integrated Learning (WIL) opportunities
  • Enrichment of your current academic studies

Instructors please share this opportunity with your students.

This trip is a rare opportunity to blend technology, culture, and history. We encourage students, particularly students who identify as Black, to apply and take advantage of this incredible experience.

Professors and other staff who have direct contact with students – please share with them about TTC Photo ID Day and the discounts available on public transit.

Did you know that full-time students can save on their TTC monthly pass?

Post-secondary students with a TTC-issued photo ID can save about $28 every month on Toronto transit!

Students can get their TTC Post-Secondary Photo ID at Bathurst Station or on the following days on campus:

  • North Campus - September 24 at LRC Concourse, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • Lakeshore Campus - September 26 at L Building, room L1017 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • IGS Students can find information about a TTC Photo ID Office visit on the IGS Portal

What to bring when getting a TTC Post-Secondary Photo ID

  • Proof of full-time enrollment at Humber College, which can be accessed on MyHumber
  • School or government issued photo ID
  • $7 in cash

Under 19 years old? Students can benefit from the Youth Fare.

For those who are 19 and under, there’s a discounted Monthly Pass for $128.15 and pay-as-you-go fare is also lower at $2.25. This discount is based on age and has nothing to do with school status and so it does not require a TTC Photo ID. To get this deal, simply visit a Shoppers Drug Mart with your PRESTO card and a piece of Government Photo ID containing date of birth. The employees at Shoppers will then program the PRESTO card with your birthdate, allowing you to enjoy a pay-as-you-go discount or you can choose to purchase a monthly pass.

Civil Discourse: What Is It, and Why Does It Matter at College?

Civil discourse is a commitment to thinking out loud together with others in classrooms and other settings. It provides a way for people to recognize and reckon with difference and disagreement, and to see this as a way of increasing mutual understandings and also shared understandings of important issues and ideas.

In this talk, Dr. Randy Boyagoda will discuss the importance of civil discourse as a way to overcome divides, conflicts, and extreme positions between members of the same community. He will argue that it matters at college because it contributes to the common good, advances knowledge, and supports the pursuit of truth.

All Humber faculty (full and part-time), staff, and students are invited to the ACER Community of Interest.

The Community of Interest (CI) offers an informal, virtual platform for the Humber community to connect over their shared interest in topics related to aging. Highlights from ACER’s previous CI Meetings can be read on our website.

This virtual 'brown bag' lunch conversation revolves around subjects that matter to participants, such as articles they would like to discuss, upcoming events, potential research projects, and the sharing of research results. The community meets on the third Thursday of the month from 12 to 1 p.m.
