Facilitator: Maydianne Andrade Ph.D

Biography:

As the Vice-Dean of Faculty Affairs & Equity at the University of Toronto Scarborough (UTSC), Professor Maydianne Andrade shows the strength diversity brings to an organization through actively promoting the hiring, retention, and success of a diverse and inclusive faculty. Through her informative and eye-opening talks, she speaks to the harm that unconscious biases have on both individuals and organizations, and provides techniques and solutions to resolve and mitigate those negative effects to create more positive and fair workplaces.

Andrade earned her Ph.D. in Neurobiology and Behaviour from Cornell University and has been a professor at UTSC for more than 18 years, becoming the Vice Dean, Faculty Affairs and Equity in 2017. In this role, she advises on academic equity issues; faculty advancement, promotions, mentorship, and recognition; and, oversees all academic HR matters including the selection and training of Dean’s Assessors, labour relations and grievances, and more. In 2019, Andrade received the Ludwik and Estelle Jus Memorial Human Rights Prize from the University of Toronto Alumni Association for her work initiating conversations about race, gender, and bias.

Social Hackathon - Access To Higher Education - Register Now. Image of blue lightbulb

Interested Humber staff are invited to join us for a day of social innovation with our community, industry and school partners to solve issues that affect the attainment of higher education.

Join Humber for a day of social innovation where we will engage you in a different kind of community advisory experience.

Community Outreach & Workforce Development (COWD) is hosting a full-day social hackathon on February 28 to address access to higher education issues that affect underrepresented individuals.

This Hackathon is the perfect opportunity to share your expertise and to help us develop systems-thinking solutions that improve access to postsecondary education.

The morning will focus on situating the problem, the need and the opportunity as it relates to access to higher education being a crucial driver of economic and social development.

In the afternoon, after being equipped with information and resources, you will be placed on cross-sectoral teams to design systems solutions to one of four access issues posed along the higher education student cycle.

This event will feature a great keynote, many opportunities to network, and will help generate solutions that will collectively move the dial forward on post-secondary access.

Today, innovation is vital for every organization. Yet each of us approaches problem-solving differently. Understanding your particular approach toward innovating can enable success in our ever-changing world. The Foursight workshop supports the “people side” of innovation. The one-day workshop is designed for innovators who want to help individuals and teams build the mindset and skillsets that support creative thinking, collaborative problem solving and cultures of innovation.

On the first part of the workshop, the FourSight will give you and your team the insight into each individual's preferred way of clarifying, generating, developing, and implementing ideas. How? By asking a series of simple questions. Each has been carefully developed and thoroughly researched to provide a clear perspective of how you can innovate with others most effectively.

On the second part, using the insights from the learning in the FourSight Thinking Assessment, you will explore the four-step creative problem solving (CPS) process —clarify, ideate, develop and implement. Participants will apply their learning to a real challenge that they are facing in their current work.
