To ensure as many people as possible have the opportunity to participate in both Humber College’s rescheduled Town Halls and the Humber Arboretum’s Strategic Plan Focus Groups, the Arboretum is moving our focus groups to November.

Join us at the Centre for Urban Ecology on one of our new dates:

  • Thursday, November 15, 10 a.m.
  • Thursday, November 15, 12 p.m.

Or if you won’t be on campus, you can register for our Virtual Focus Groups taking place online on the same days.

The Humber Arboretum is excited to invite everyone to take part in the creation of our first five-year plan. Join us in transforming the Humber Arboretum by contributing to our new vision for 2019-2024. Throughout the fall there will be opportunities for you to share your ideas and opinions about the activities that take place at the Humber Arboretum and to tell us what you'd like us to do in the future.

Team Diabetes Fundraising Event

Celebrate World Diabetes Day on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at 12 p.m. with lunch in the Humber Room. 

For the past decade, Stephanie Maggs has been raising money for the Canadian Diabetes Association with the goal of raising $100,000 in her lifetime, specifically by running marathons on all seven continents. She is hosting a lunch event in the Humber Room on Wednesday, November 14, 2018. Currently, Stephanie is raising $18,000 and running her last continent - Antarctica 2020 with Team Diabetes.   

There will be a delicious lunch served, lots of table prizes, and a silent auction.

Tickets are $40.

Starter: Butternut Squash Soup
Entree: Ontario Farm Raised Roasted Chicken Thigh, Cannellini Beans, Root Vegetables and Yukon Potatoes
Dessert: Sous-Vide Poached Apple
Coffee/Tea

Stella & Dot Fundraiser Benefiting the United Way

The gorgeous Stella & Dot line of celebrity-coveted accessories, including jewellery, clothing, scarves, handbags and travel bags will be here for us to peruse, try on and shop.

The fundraiser is being organized by professors from the Tourism Management Program. They are participating in a fundraising Spinathon (under the pseudonym 'The Tacky Tourists'). Proceeds from the fundraiser (50% of net profits from sales) will be donated to the United Way.  

1/2 of the line is under $60. Visa, MC, Amex and PayPal are accepted. Orders arrive within five business days.

L&D Management Workshop - Feedback Strategies for Successful Leadership

The process of giving and receiving constructive feedback is another important skill that managers need when working effectively with their team. If done properly, productivity is increased, and interpersonal relationships are enhanced. Stress is reduced, and the work environment is healthy.

Learning objectives:

  •  Identify the benefits of giving feedback
  •  Identify how conflict plays a role in feedback
  •  List the six strategic steps of constructive feedback
  •  Learn how to deposit into the emotional bank account

At the end of the workshop, participants will:

  •  Appreciate the importance of feedback as a skill
  •  Demonstrate the strategic steps of giving and receiving feedback
  •  Know the barriers of feedback and how to overcome them

As part of International Education Week, Humber International is running an assessment workshop.
Attendees will learn:

  • Various steps involved in an international assessment
  • Understanding and assessing program requirements, English language requirements
  • Intersections between admissions and IRCC
  • Grade conversions
  • Assessment resources
  • Key markets for Humber
  • Funnel statistics (applications, offers and starts)

This will be a practical workshop where attendee will get the opportunity to assess documents from India, Brazil and Nigeria.
The workshop will be run on both campuses as follows:

Tuesday November 13

  • 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. in F232 (North Campus) 
  • 2:30 p.m. - 4 p.m. in B114 (Lakeshore Campus) 

Friday November 16

  • 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. in E422 (North Campus) 
  • 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. in B116 (Lakeshore Campus)

Places are limited and will be offered on first-come first-serve basis.
