The Scholars’ Café is a chance to discuss the latest in the teaching and learning literature. It is like a book club, but for journal articles. Each month, faculty will gather to chat informally about a selected paper from a scholarly teaching and learning journal.

Three decades ago, Chickering and Gamson (1987) wrote a paper entitled "Seven Principles for Good Practice in Undergraduate Education" (see attached pdf file). In this month's (Friday, April 6, 2018) cafe, we will discuss the relevance of these principles in today's teaching and learning environment: Do all seven principles still apply? How are they different ...with today's technology? ...with today's heterogeneous student population? ...with our current understanding of student learning? Are there other principles that you would add? If you could have only one of the principles, which would it be? This short but seminal paper will serve as the launching point for a discussion about the principles of good practice in today's educational landscape.

Note: The Session at the Lake will be via satellite.
