In this introductory workshop, students will examine and investigate Roman Art and Art History, looking at how Rome has played a major role in creating some of Western civilizations most significant artworks. Students will walk away with the confidence and desire to plan their own trips separate from guide books and tourist guides, travel off the beaten path and create their own stories. This workshop also includes a two-hour Italian language lesson.

Please drop by to see our graduating students' Capstone Project presentations on Wednesday, April 26 from 11 a.m. to approximately 4 p.m. in room T132 (North Campus - conference room in the residence building).

Our unique program prepares graduates to examine, model and improve the energy and environmental performance of existing buildings; support the design, construction and operation of new, sustainable buildings; implement renewable energy technologies; and support new approaches to understanding and managing energy use on campuses, in neighbourhoods or whole cities. At one time we paid little attention to the cost, availability and environmental impact of energy use – today, these are issues of growing importance to every individual, business and government.

This year’s project topics include:

  • The Cost from Code to Active House
  • NZE Off Grid Tiny House
  • N Building Reskin Project
  • Retrofitting Conventionally Built House by Adopting Passive House Principles
  • Feasibility Analysis of a Nature Home Design
  • DREAMLIFE - A Net-Zero Commercial Building
  • Tree-Hugger Home
  • Regenerative Strategic Plan
  • Toronto Green Film Standard
  • “Black Wood”:  An alternative to conventional wood framing
  • Water Purification via soil stratification
  • A Case Study in Solar Development
  • Tighter & Healthier Home

The plight of honey bees has been in the news a lot recently, but some of the most important pollinators are native bees who specialize in pollinating flowers that are native to the regional ecologies of Canada. Native bees also have to deal with the loss of habitat brought about by urbanization.

Bee hotels are a fun way of giving back to native bee species. They provide bees with much needed nesting sites that can also help your neighbourhoods grow!

Come out to the Lakeshore Grounds Interpretive Centre on April 22 from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. to hear a talk about the relationship between native and honey bees and to take part in a bee hotel making workshop.
