Public speaking and presentations scare many of us. In this fun workshop, you will learn the art of good presentation skills by looking at both verbal and non-verbal techniques. You will also discover some great techniques for preparing for and getting comfortable with presenting. Every class you take presents you with lots of information to take in and learn. How can anyone remember it all? Good note taking is essential and learning how to sift through information to make effective notes will move you towards success. In this workshop students will learn and practise strategies for optimizing their note taking ability.

Miriam Toews will read on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. She writes both fiction and non-fiction. She is the author of Swing Low: A life, A Boy of Good Breeding, Summer of My Amazing Luck, and A Complicated Kindness, an outstanding Canadian bestseller. Among her many honours are a Governor General's Award, a National Magazine Award for Humour, and a Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction. She won the 2008 Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize for The Flying Troutmans. Her most recent work is the critically acclaimed Irma Voth.

Of her writing, Maclean's says, "Toews' ability to generate comedy and heartache at the same time just soars."

Collaborate, which is replacing our Wimba product, is a brand new collaborative learning software that allows instructors to connect with students within a virtual learning environment. Within a Collaborate room, faculty can lead their classes through online discussions, while integrating video, audio, and chat functions, PowerPoint slideshows and desktop sharing capabilities. The Collaborate classroom can be directly setup and accessed within the Blackboard framework and is a great tool for faculty to enhance their online and hybrid courses.
