On behalf of the Mentoring Partnership, I ask that you consider volunteering your time to this very important initiative.
Humber is a corporate and community partner of The Mentoring Partnership, a program of the Toronto Region Immigrant Employment Council (TRIEC). This program is a collaboration of community organizations and corporate partners that connects skilled immigrants with established professionals in occupation-specific mentoring relationships. Since 2007
Humber’s Community Employment Services has been successful in over 673 mentoring matches.
Humber staff can play an important role in mentoring internationally-trained professionals by offering valuable advice and insight to help them understand Canada’s workplace cultures. A small commitment from you can have a big impact in the lives of new immigrants.
By sharing your knowledge and experience, a mentor gives 24 hours of their time over a four- month period to help a skilled newcomer navigate through the job search process. A mentor’s role is to help a skilled immigrant:
- identify skills required by market demands;
- proceed with accreditation or skills upgrading;
- improve professional terminology; and
- collect information on local industries and employers.
Mentors are needed from many occupations, including IT, business, finance, social services, education, human resources, engineering, health professions etc. - all the skills that we have at Humber.
