In this workshop, we will work toward a better understanding of Asperger’s Syndrome and also explore some tools you could use to support students with Asperger’s Syndrome more effectively in your classroom.

Every class you take presents you with lots of information to take in and learn. How can anyone remember it all? Good note taking is essential and learning how to sift through information to make effective notes will move you towards success. In this workshop students will learn and practise strategies for optimizing their note taking ability.

The Lakeshore Campus of Humber College will again be hosting two literary readings during the 2012-2013 academic year. The readings will begin at 12 noon, and they will occur in The Assembly Hall, 1 Colonel Samuel Smith Park Drive (at Kipling Avenue and Lakeshore Boulevard West). The authors will read selections from their works, and afterwards, there will be time for questions from the audience. The readings are free and open to the public.

Ray Robertson will open the series on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. He is the author of six novels: Home Movies, Heroes, Moody Food, Gently Down the Stream, What Happened Later, and David. He is also the author of two books of nonfiction: Mental Hygiene: Essays on Writers and Writing and Why Not? Fifteen Reasons to Live. The latter book was a finalist for the prestigious Hilary Weston Writers' Trust Prize for Nonfiction. He is a Contributing Editor to The Globe and Mail and appears frequently on TVO's Imprint and CBC's Talking Books.

According to The National Post, "Moody Food has the vibrancy of The Sun Also Rises ... Robertson's ability to catch the mood of the times is uncanny. The book is a rollicking good read."

Miriam Toews will read on Wednesday, March 6, 2013. She writes both fiction and non-fiction. She is the author of Swing Low: A life, A Boy of Good Breeding, Summer of My Amazing Luck, and A Complicated Kindness, an outstanding Canadian bestseller. Among her many honours are a Governor General's Award, a National Magazine Award for Humour, and a Margaret Laurence Award for Fiction. She won the 2008 Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize for The Flying Troutmans. Her most recent work is the critically acclaimed Irma Voth.

Of her writing, Maclean's says, "Toews' ability to generate comedy and heartache at the same time just soars."
