Simulations: Putting Classroom Skills To The “Real World” Test

The workshop will focus on the use of ‘simulations’ to test and practice the skills
that students learn in a classroom setting in as ‘real world’ a situation as
possible. The focus will be on live interactive simulations rather than computer
based and on human interactions rather than technical outcomes. The workshop
will also outline how simulations can be used as a capstone activity to allow
students to combine the skills from their entire program together to see the fit
and importance of their entire course complement.

This workshop is specifically designed for individuals who need to enhance their computer skills for business or personal use. The Computer Essentials workshop is divided into three, three hour sessions. In each session attendees will produce a work sample that can be used as part of a final Business Portfolio. If preferable, attendees can register for one specific workshop.

  • Create simple tables, queries and reports
  • Visualize, compare and contrast data through access tables
  • Utilize pivot tables to produce specific information

Evaluation Techniques DEV.104.60 begins on February 28, March 1, 6 and 8.

Prerequisite(s):

The Teaching Effectiveness Certificate program is designed for those interested in the field of teaching or private sector training. The courses within this certificate program provide participants with an opportunity to explore best practices in teaching and learning and apply the skills learned in a safe environment with other classmates.

The certificate is comprised of five individual courses that are designed to develop essential teaching competencies.  Upon successful completion of the five courses, participants receive a Certificate of Completion.

More and more Humber faculty are being encouraged to create a teaching portfolio – a collection of documents and materials that describes a teacher’s teaching philosophy, summarizes their teaching performances, lists significant academic and professional accomplishments and highlights teaching highlights. Traditional hard copy portfolios are still very common but Humber faculty can also create rich multimedia
portfolios using suitable ePortfolio software such as Weebly, WordPress and Goodle ePortfolio. This workshop is a follow-up to Professional Development's ePortfolio workshops lead by Norma Oulette. Register for this workshop and learn some of the basics of building an ePortfolio.
