But can a "saint" truly die, abandoned by the humanity collective's thoughts? "Dead Saint" is a work that was made with frottage - a technique that requires you to rub a texture surface to bring out a work of art - from mostly old and abandoned tombstones, those tombstones that were carved with words and images of saints. The shoot was based off the Studio Ghibli film 'When Marnie Was There', with my friend as the subject in the photos dressed as the titular character. I was inspired by the strong presence of the natural world in Studio Ghibli films and wanted to show the character immersed in nature in an interesting way. I also did some colour editing in order to make the photos more aligned with a vibrant animated colour palette. Recently, during a class, I learned more about the design elements for video and photography. While browsing through my files, I stumbled upon this image and decided to enhance it to better convey my intended message. I created this image to depict a person struggling with mental health. The image portrays a sense of isolation and helplessness as if the person is trapped within their mind and trying to break free from the invisible chains holding them back. Unable to simply walk by, I couldn't resist capturing the moment through a photograph. Grateful to have my DSLR with me, I was able to seize that moment in all its beauty. This place used to be a store that sold car stereo CD players. As time passes, nobody needs that kind of CD player anymore; that makes it hard to see that kind of device. Instead of throwing them away, the owner stacked those CD players like a mountain and showed them to people. At that moment, Brooklyn Bridge gave me a sense of peace and playfulness in this fast-paced and chaotic city. Every day that passes here, my tastebuds crave that taste, masala, spices, and most importantly the love of my mom. The inspiration to create the "Love of Mothers" came from this deep feeling of homesickness that almost every international student experiences every day that they pass. This is my contribution to taking all the Indians down the memory lane when our mothers made the most amazing "Poha" for us in breakfast which we all miss today, maybe we didn't cherish it that much back then, we didn't realize that we will miss it so much that our eyes would fill with tears.
