Placement and Advisory

Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) gives students the opportunity to apply their skills in real-world settings while gaining valuable experience and professional connections. We offer experiences where students can get first-hand experience working with startups and founders, learning what it’s really like inside an innovative, fast-paced environment. You'll put your skills to the test in meaningful, hands-on ways, all while building your resume and expanding your network.

Experience Ventures Projects – Students work one-on-one with a company on a short-term project (up to 80 hours) tailored to their skills and interests.

Experience Ventures Placements

Experience Ventures gives Humber and Guelph-Humber students the chance to work with startups, founders, and community organizations through short-term, hands-on projects. Open to all disciplines, these opportunities help you build real-world skills, grow your network, and explore innovation in action.

  • Up to 80 hours of project-based work
  • Gain experience in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments
  • Students will receive an honorarium for their participation

Longo Advisory Student Business Consulting Grant

The Longo Advisory SBC program connects students with innovative companies for consulting placements while offering career coaching, workshops, and a $2,500 grant for eligible participants. It’s designed to help you gain consulting experience and boost your professional development.

  • 224–280 hour placements
  • 1:1 career coaching + career development workshops
  • Micro-credentials in consulting and management
  • $2,500 grant for 22 students completing placements

Meet Our Mentors

Neha Khurram

Neha Khurram is an Certified Coach, Career Strategist, and Startup Advisor with a background in sales, recruitment, and marketing, focused on accelerating career success and business growth. As the former Startup Platform lead at MaRS Discovery District, she managed a venture community of 1100+ early-stage startups across Health, Climate, SaaS, and Fintech, driving connections to customers, investors, and talent to commercialize and scale globally. Her passion for entrepreneurship and talent development led her to the creation of Beam Career Coaching, Ltd. in 2020, having supported thousands of job seekers throughout her career over the past 10 years. She regularly posts content about career direction and personal growth on instagram as @coachneha.co and on LinkedIn, as well as through media contributions to The Globe and Mail, Business Insider, and other publications.

Julie Ellis

In her early 30's, Julie was no longer waking up with enthusiasm for the workday ahead. She knew she needed a change from her corporate career.

She dreamt of her own big gorgeous goals and with that clarity, she co-founded Mabel's Labels - making personalized labels for all the stuff kids lose as they go out into the world. The business grew wildly, and Julie became an award-winning entrepreneur, eventually selling the business to an industry giant.

At Mabel's Labels, she learned growing a business to 8-figures was easier with a group of growth-minded women around her. Now, she helps other women get connected, solve problems and grow bigger businesses, reaching their own big gorgeous goals.

Julie’s book, Big Gorgeous Goals is written for women entrepreneurs who want to step out of the small box they are in and set world domination in their sights. In discussion with sixteen women entrepreneurs, Julie explores their stories and pairs that with how she built, grew, and sold Mabel’s Labels. On the Figure 8 podcast, Julie has conversations with 7- and 8-figure revenue women entrepreneurs about their growth journeys.
