Starting Over: How Antonina Found Career Success in Canada After Being Forced to Flee Ukraine.
“Do your homework” —a phrase every expat hears when planning their move to Canada. But not everyone gets the chance to prepare.
For Antonina, who left Ukraine in the midst of war, there was no time for careful planning. Her priority was simple and immediate: find a safe place to raise her children, which led her to Canada in February 2023.
Antonina arrived with extensive experience in Supply Chain but quickly faced the unexpected challenges of the Canadian job market.
“When I started sending out my resume, I received no responses. I soon realized I needed to understand the skills and qualifications required to restart my career here.”
This led her to Humber’s SCAPE bridging program (Supply Chain Awareness Program and Employment), designed to help internationally trained supply chain professionals restart their careers in Ontario.
Through SCAPE, Antonina received the support she needed to restart her career in Canada.
She honed her technical skills with guidance from Humber’s seasoned professors, learned effective job search strategies from our career expert Caroline, and connected one-on-one with industry employers, thanks to Ryoko, our job developer for the SCAPE Bridging Program.
With this support, Antonina received her first job offer in Canada as an Order Fulfillment Specialist with Epiroc.
We’re honored to have supported Antonina on her journey to restart her career in Canada and wish her a bright and fulfilling future ahead.
If you’re an internationally trained supply chain professional feeling lost in your journey, our bridging program is here to support you.
