3.5 Service Disruption Notices

The college’s policies, practices, and procedures should include notices of service disruptions. Notices must be posted in places likely to be seen by people with disabilities and must indicate:

  • Reason for the disruption.
  • Anticipated duration.
  • Alternative facilities or services available, if any.

If there are planned disruptions in service, it is important to provide a reasonable amount of advance notice. Notice of unexpected disruptions should be posted as soon as possible. Disruptions to all services, such as a power outage, do not require special notice.

Service disruption notices can be provided on a website, pre-recorded telephone messages, or inserts in regular mailed correspondence. The notices should provide service alternatives such as:

  • Maps with directions to another elevator, accessible washroom, or alternate service location.
  • Suggestions for accessing services by another means, such as; online, by telephone, or by mail.
