Public Safety to Conduct Test of Emergency Messages
Humber College and the University of Guelph-Humber take the safety of our community seriously. This includes the ability to notify community members of an emergency.
Due to some recent upgrades, it is necessary to conduct testing of pre-recorded emergency messages at the North Campus only.
Testing of the emergency messages will take place on Monday, August 21, 2023 after 9 p.m. Testing will require the playing of several pre-recorded emergency messages several times to ensure full coverage of the system. It is anticipated that testing will take approximately two (2) hours.
In an effort to minimize the disruption to campus and community members, it is recommended that no activity take place after 9 p.m. and that community members leave campus where possible. An announcement will be made via the PA prior to the start of the testing and once the testing is complete.
Questions or concerns can be directed to Kathy Branton, manager Business Continuity and Emergency Management at kathy.branton@humber or ext. 5550.

Dear colleagues,
It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of John Lam to the position of Director, Longo Centre for Entrepreneurship (CfE).

John has also been involved with the Longo CfE supporting the BMO Launch Me Competition as well as introducing start-ups to the Longo CfE team for work integrated learning student placements.
John was the founder of both Speakeezy Technologies and uFrizz, two start-ups that speak to his entrepreneurial spirit.

Mental Health Training for Students, Student Leaders, and Student Staff
Student Wellness and Equitable Learning is offering training for students on how to understand mental health and recognize when a peer needs support. This training operationalizes the goals of the Well-being Strategy and our goal to promote mental health literacy at Humber College and University Guelph-Humber.
This 90-minute session is designed to assist students with identifying when a peer is experiencing difficulty or distress. Participants will learn to recognize the signs that a peer needs help, and strategies and skills for having a supportive conversation. A list of on- and off- campus will be available for participants. The workshop is interactive with case studies and strategies and part of the college's efforts to raise awareness of student mental health. Students will receive CCR recognition for completing the training.
Departments, Managers, and Program Coordinators can submit a request for training via the Workshop Request Form.
The form above can also be used to request the Recognize, Respond and Support Learners in Distress workshop designed to help faculty and staff with taking steps to support learners experiencing difficulties, provide referrals to resources, as well as self-care tips.
