All Live, DEVU, and MSTR courses from Winter 2023 will be deleted from Humber systems on Wednesday, May 31. This includes all Banner- and Destiny 1-generated courses.

System clean-ups are scheduled following good practices for data and storage management. Humber's practice is to retain past courses for one year plus one semester (e.g. last year's Fall 2023 courses will be retained through the current Fall 2024 semester. These are accessible to profs under "past courses" in Bb until the time of deletion at the start of Winter 2025).

IL recommends faculty back up and archive Blackboard courses at the end of each semester. Most sites take no more than 10 minutes to archive. OneDrive is available to all faculty for file storage.

Tip: OneDrive is also a helpful resource when sharing course files with multiple instructors at the start of each semester, and saves everyone the potential hassle of trying to share content from within Blackboard courses.

Support for OneDrive is available from ITS, and support for learning how to back up and archive courses is available from the IL Support Centre.

The Temporary Use of Space for Events Policy in effect since July 2019, remains in place.

All events and activities using space on campus require a permit which will be issued by the booking authority, subject to inspection by the department of Public Safety or other college officials upon demand. This will ensure that all bookings have been vetted, meet risk management guidelines, and are logged properly so that in the event of an emergency we can take appropriate action.

All external requests for booking space on campus are managed by Humber’s Central Events Office and should be referred to an Event Logistics Coordinator. External organizations may be referred to humber.ca/central-events to request a quote. Internal requests for booking space will continue to be verified and processed through the Registration Office Scheduling Department via a Temporary Use of Space Application form. If a request is deemed to be external, it will be forwarded to the Central Events Office.

As part of the Finch West Light Rail Transit (LRT) Project, crews will be performing minor sidewalk and curb works at Humber College Boulevard and Hwy 27.

The work is scheduled to start on May 8, 2024, and will last until June 14, 2024, approximately.

Work may be rescheduled due to weather conditions or unforeseen circumstances.

Please take extra care when navigating near work sites, and always make eye contact with the driver before crossing in front of any equipment or vehicle as it is accessing or egressing the active work zone. Please also comply with instructions from site crews and follow the dedicated pedestrian routes. Please do not enter into any areas with active construction operations.

Minor field modifications may occur when needed to complete work safely and minimize impact on the public.

The Library is proud to launch a new, student-focused website with functionality and content designed to support Humber and University of Guelph-Humber students in their academic success.

To bring this project to life, the Library Systems Team consulted with students, faculty and staff at Humber and the University of Guelph-Humber to carry out user research and to test design prototypes. Students from Humber’s UX Design postgraduate program participated in the research process and the design of the site.

New features, as requested by students, include:

  • An interactive website tour to orient visitors to the homepage’s features
  • An updated Library Search tool with drop-down selections for quick access to the Library’s collections
  • Searchable FAQ for quick answers to everyday questions about the Library
  • Navigation menus designed to student preferences to support content discovery
  • An easy to find Library Account link in the top right corner

We are so excited to share the new website with the Humber and UofGH communities! Visit library.humber.ca to explore.

May 6 to 11 was Safety and Health Week. All week long, Occupational Health and Safety Services sent out health and safety-related information to celebrate the week. In case you missed any of the posts, please view the attachments.

On the final day, an opportunity to win some prizes was announced. And you still have time. For your chance to win one of three $15 gift cards to the Campus Bookstore, all you have to do is email a photo to healthandsafety@humber.ca related to one of the four health and safety topics that were presented in the Communiqué last week.

Be sure to review each post as we provided some photo hints that you may want to consider (or feel free to use your imagination). Photos will be judged by members of the Humber’s Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committees. Winners will be selected based on the relevance to the chosen topic, and the showcasing of Humber pride and spirit (let us celebrate Humber’s health and safety practices across our beautiful campuses).

The contest closes on Friday, May 17.

Good luck!
