As part of #CyberMonth2022, the HSPP REEL Big Phishing Trainer game returned for a second season. Once again, through the Humber-Seneca Polytechnic Partnership program (HSPP), our colleges collaborated to develop an interactive phishing awareness game. This season of the game reinforces our learning objectives of the previous season, identifying phishing emails through red flags that are commonly seen in phishing attempts. In addition to identifying phishing emails, additional security best practices have been incorporated to exercise your overall security awareness.

In addition to being fun, interactive, and a great learning experience, the game also features a Humber Vs. Seneca leaderboard, which will allow for friendly competition.  You will have the opportunity to play the game as many times as you would like, improving your score and increasing Humber's chances of being this years’ winner.

The game was delivered to all employees on October 1 and currently, our colleagues at Seneca are leading. We are encouraging all Humber employees to play the game to improve their knowledge and help our community be victorious this season.

To get started, please go to husencollege.com to play the game today!

Below are several ways in which we can improve awareness and have employees play the game;

  • Share the link with your colleagues in team chats and meetings
  • Reach out to a colleague via teams or email and share your experience with them while urging them to play the game.
  • Having an internal team competition to see who scores the highest in the game.

Humber has identified as its Strategic Priority #7 under Pillar #3, Healthy and Inclusive Community, to continue to build a diverse and inclusive community of exceptional students, faculty, and staff. The specific supporting action is to establish and implement an institutional framework and strategy for equity, diversity and inclusion that addresses the needs of both students and employees.

Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) bring together employees who share a common identity, characteristic and set of interests. They create a culture of inclusion that enhances employee engagement and further supports organizations’ vision and values.

The Black/African ERG was launched in September 2020 and is one of two ERGs that Humber College currently offers for all eligible staff and faculty. (Source: Catalyst)

Humber employees who identify as Black/African and are interested in joining the ERG are invited to send an email to the co-leads, Shernett Bennett at shernett.bennett@humber.ca or Lola Nelson lola.nelson@humber.ca

  • In Humber’s newly launched Academic Plan, Priority 1 is Programs and Pathways for Lifelong Learning.

  • The Ontario Council on Articulation and Transfer (ONCAT), established in 2011, was created to enhance academic pathways and reduce barriers for students looking to transfer among Ontario’s public colleges and universities, and Indigenous institutes.

  • OnTransfer.ca is a free tool to help students transfer among publicly funded colleges, universities, and Indigenous Institutes in Ontario. It is maintained by ONCAT and funded by the Government of Ontario.

Eric Deletroz in chef uniform

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear friend, colleague, mentor and professor. Chef Eric Deletroz a part-time culinary professor with Humber College for the past 11 years passed away suddenly on Saturday. He is leaving behind his wife Lisa and their son.

Eric hailed from Switzerland arriving in Canada with his passion for food and the culinary industry. While here he worked in many roles, including Corporate Chef of Cara Foods and Director of Culinary and Menu Development for Imvestcor. Most recently, Eric taught part-time at Humber College while working with McCormick Foods in product development. While teaching at Humber and mentoring the next generation of chefs, Eric was also the lead examiner of the Certified Chef de Cuisine program mentoring many chefs to achieve a top level industry credential.

Eric was a truly kind and energetic person who cared about everyone he met. His love of family and friends was apparent in every conversation as well as his career and craft. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him.

On Monday, October 24, flags at our campuses will be lowered to half-mast in memory of Eric Deletroz.
