Congratulations to all our employees celebrating Career Milestones in October!

The following employees are celebrating their 1, 5, 10, 15, 25 and 30-year anniversary with Humber. We encourage you to reach out to your colleagues to congratulate them on their Career Milestones.

Please note there will be an external film shoot taking place at North Campus from October 26 to 28.

On October 26, there will be a large crew prepping the following filming areas between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

• First floor of the Barrett CTI building
• Second floor of the Barrett CTI building
• E135 Lecture Hall and Concourse

On October 27, there will be additional preparation between 7 a.m. to 12 p.m. and filming will take place between 1 p.m. to 2 a.m. (October 28) in the following areas:

• First floor of the Barrett CTI building
• Second floor of the Barrett CTI building
• E135 Lecture Hall and Concourse

On October 28, the film crew will wrap up in all areas of the Barrett CTI, E135 Lecture Hall and Concourse between 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Please note:

Lot #4 will be sectioned off for the film crew as of 6 p.m. on October 25 until 5 p.m. on October 28 with a portion of the lot reserved for permit holders. Delivery vehicles will access and temporarily park in the E building courtyard. Security has been arranged to be with this film crew at all times while they are on Humber property.

This 90-minute workshop aims to increase self- and collective- awareness of how gender norms and social constructs of masculinity can inflict harm on oneself and others. Participants will get equipped with the knowledge and effective strategies to challenge the links between gender-based violence and masculinity.

Upon the completion of the workshop, participants will be able to:

• Understand the process of gender socialization and how gender norms and stereotypes shape the view and attitudes for people of all genders and ages.
• Be able to challenge unacceptable gender norms and practice that enable sexualized and gender-based violence.
• Reflect critically on individual and societal ideas of femininity, masculinity and what it means to “be a man” and assess how these ideas contribute to or impede diversity, inclusion, and equity in the college community.
• Assess opportunities and effective approaches to create healthy and non-violent masculinities, which in turn can lead to more equitable, respectful and non-violent relations in the communities.
• Increase their empathy for survivors of sexualizedand gender-based violence.
• Gain knowledge of resources available to those who have been affected by sexual and gender-based violence.

About the facilitator

Trevoh Mayoh from Next Gen Men, is a disruptive diversity, inclusion and violence prevention consultant who focuses on transformative projects around the world. Trevor works with government and corporate partners on deconstructing gender norms and creating innovative violence prevention programming. He possesses unique expertise from working with professional sports, hospitality, technology, extractive and post-secondary organizations internally and externally to help foster more inclusive, safe and successful environments. Trevor is a regular commentator on Newstalk 1010 programs and has been featured in numerous print, radio and television media throughout North America.

With the fall term well under way, our student journalists are out and about on campus, practicing the journalism skills acquired in the classroom. You may see them filming in various areas around campus and may even be contacted by a student requesting an interview.

As the primary public learning space for our students, Journalism students do not need to seek permission ahead of time to film in most public areas on campus. Journalism is considered non-commercial speech, which means students generally will not ask interview subjects to sign waivers or sign releases when they film in public areas. Humber Journalism students will be easily identifiable by a press pass that will always be carried around their neck while they are filming outside of the classroom. Students will not set up tripods or equipment in areas that will impede the natural flow of traffic in hallways or general use areas.

Journalism students will respect people’s reasonable expectation of privacy – this means they will not film people without permission in an area where they might reasonably expect privacy (such as washrooms, classrooms, through windows of buildings, etc.).
