Project Success Story - Design and Simulate Leaf Guard to Improve Drainage Capability

A Humber College research team is working on the project “Design and Simulate Leaf Guard to Improve Drainage Capability” to improve the efficiency of rainwater conservation and drainage capability. The research project is led by Principal Investigator Hamid Dehkordi, a professor in the Faculty of Applied Sciences & Technology (FAST).

The Humber research team is collaborating with industry partner NEEB Engineering for the project. The main challenges in this project are to design a new leaf guard profile to optimize water capture and drainage capability for NEEB Engineering’s rainwater harvesting system.

NEEB Engineering has developed a rainwater harvesting system to address water conservation challenges and satisfy the growing trend for sustainable technologies in the building construction sector.

The research team received the NSERC Engage grant ($25k) for the research project.

The Math & Writing Centre (MWC) has a new website.

Please let returning students know that we are no longer using WCOnline for our tutoring services. We are now using the same platform as PALS, called Upswing. Students can book a tutor by logging into https://humber.upswing.io.

For students to book with the MWC tutors rather than PALS, they need to select as their course “General Math Support” for math tutors and “General Writing Support” for writing tutors.

Students who are accustomed to submitting assignments for asynchronous review will need to follow the link on our website for Written Feedback.

Students can contact us by visiting our Virtual Front Desk at or by emailing us at mathcentre@humber.ca or writingcentre@humber.ca.

The 2SLGBTQ+ Employee Resource Group (ERG) is inviting interested faculty and staff who identify as a member of the 2SLGBTQ+ community to join the ERG. The ERG helps advance a culture at Humber that is accepting and inclusive for all 2SLGBTQ+ staff, faculty and students through outreach, community development, events, and consultation.

The 2SLGBTQ+ ERG meets once a month to engage in event planning, workshops, guest speakers, and discuss current topics at Humber College. We are always looking for new ideas, events, and opportunities to further engage our community within the ERG and Humber College.

Aligning with Humber’s Strategic Priority #7 under Pillar #3, Healthy and Inclusive Community, the ERG brings together employees who share a common identity, characteristic and set of interests. We work to create a culture of inclusion that enhances employee engagement and further supports Humber’s vision and values.

Humber employees who identify as 2SLGBTQ+ and are interested in joining this ERG can indicate their interest by sending an email to co-chair Matthew Harris at matthew.harris@humber.ca.
