The new Subway location located at the North Campus E Building is now open.

From Monday, August 29 to Thursday, September 1, 2022 it will be open from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.

From September 6 onwards its hours will be Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

The Humber Faculty Handbook 2022-2023 is now available online!

This handbook is a comprehensive guide designed to assist Humber faculty to become familiar with the facilities and virtual resources available to support you. It also contains policies and procedures that we feel will help contribute to and enrich your experience teaching at Humber, including practical resources for before, during and the end of each term.

As a Fair Trade Campus, Humber College is committed to exclusively serving Fair Trade coffee at all catered meetings, events, and conferences on campus, as well as off-campus affairs organized by the college administration, faculty, and students.

This fall, all events and meetings will be offering Birch Bark Coffee as well as locations on campus. Birch Bark Coffee is a certified organic, Fair Trade coffee that is SPP certified, meaning that its grown and produced by farmers that are Indigenous. Not only is it a fully owned and run Indigenous business, but a percentage of every coffee bean purchase goes towards providing Belkraft water purification units for Indigenous peoples living in communities still under boiled water advisories.

Your positive feedback is greatly appreciated when reviewing your experience with Birch Bark Coffee on campus and will play a big role in us being able to continue this partnership into the future. When you get back to campus and are deciding where to grab your daily coffee, make sure to stop by the following locations and choose Birch Bark to support this great initiative. Also, don’t forget your reusable cup!

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Elijah Williams as the Associate Dean, Indigenous Education & Engagement. Elijah will officially began in his new position on September 12, 2022.

Elijah’s advocacy is informed by his background as a member of the Turtle Clan of the Cayuga Nation. The values and principles of the Haudenosaunee prescribes that the work he does needs to build a positive legacy for people living generations from now. He is an educator from Six Nations of the Grand River Reserve.

Elijah served as Director, Indigenous Engagement and led the Centre for Indigenous Learning and Support. Elijah oversaw the development of Sheridan’s Babamadiwin, Indigenous Start Well, which is an online program designed to help Indigenous learners successfully navigate Sheridan’s supports and services. Elijah also oversaw the development of Sheridan’s Looking Forward, Look Back Education Series. The education series aimed at providing baseline knowledge to faculty and staff about Indigenous peoples.

Elijah is the Chair of the Board of Directors at Grand River Employment and Training. He is a member of the Chief Recourse Council and Indigenous Advisory Circle for the Peel Regional Police. Elijah has served on various committees and initiatives both at Sheridan and in the broader community. Elijah has a Master of Professional Education in Indigenous Educational Leadership from Western University and he believes in the transformative power of Indigenous knowledge and ways of knowing, providing learners with an educational toolkit to flourish and thrive.

Starting this Fall, Humber is expanding the availability of reusable food containers at dining locations across North and Lakeshore campuses.  

Each campus has a unique #ReuseHumber program: 

  • North Campus: The O2GO reusable container program will be available at Street Café as well as in the Staff Lounge, with participation remaining optional. To enter the program, users pay $10 per container using debit, credit or cash, or with the ONECard app for those who wish to redeem the cost as ONECard credit upon exiting the program. Containers can be returned at any time to O2GO machines installed next to participating food locations on campus. At North Residence, all meals will be served in O2GO containers. Flex Dollars will be used towards the $10 O2GO container deposit when paying for the first meal in an O2GO container.   

  • Lakeshore Campus: All meals from Lake Café and Commons Eatery will be served in blue reusable containers supplied by Friendlier. Users will be charged refundable deposits that range from $0.50 to $1 for each container checked out. Refunds can be requested using the Friendlier mobile app or on the web. Containers can be returned to designated collection bins located near participating food outlets and Lakeshore Residence. 

O2GO is switching from cards to tokens!  

O2GO cards will no longer be accepted by food services staff as of August 28. If you already participated in the program and still have an O2GO card, come by the Office of Sustainability at E103 by October 21 to have it exchanged for a token at no additional cost.  

The Office of Sustainability will be at participating food locations across North and Lakeshore campuses from August 29 to September 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. to answer your questions about #ReuseHumber programs.

ONECard Update for Fall 2022 - Download the new app to experience all the enhanced features

ONECard is Humber’s digital identification, digital key, and digital wallet solution. Phase 1 launched in September 2021 with dining, parking, libraries, point-of-sale, and academic printing functionality. This year, we are launching an updated app and adding additional functions/features to the programme. Here is what you can expect:

Updated App

ONECard has a new digital app called Avro Mobile. The new app features a slicker interface and additional functionality. Those with GotMyCard are asked to delete it within the next week and visit humber.ca/onecard for installation instructions for the new app. Installation is easy and will set one up for future success. Should you require assistance setting up the app, please contact the I.T. Support Centre.

Digital Key

ONECard now functions as a digital key! Like the legacy employee badge, ONECard now unlocks doors (where appropriate) protecting secured areas. It also works in elevators for those with access. Note that the app must be open in the foreground to work. Please contact the person in your faculty/department responsible for access control if you have difficulty entering into an area to which you ought to have access.

Vending Machines

You can now use ONECard as a form of payment at Coke machines (assuming you have sufficient funds available). Simply hold your device to the ONECard reader and make a selection. Work is underway to also add Humber’s snack machines to ONECard. Please visit myonecard.humber.ca to load ONECard with funds. Funds in the “General” purse can be spent anywhere that accepts ONECard as payment.

Laundry

Over the summer, new laundry machines compatible with ONECard were installed in the residence buildings. With this new functionality, guests can see if any machines are free, check on the status of a machine, and set up a notification to alert them when a load is complete. ONECard can now also be used to activate washers and dryers eliminating the need for laundry cards and alternative forms of payment.

Photo Identification

Work is underway to add digital photo identification functionality to ONECard as a replacement for employee badges and employee cards. At this time, employee badges and student cards remain valid forms of identification. Students and employees should continue to use current existing processes (as shown below) for requesting cards/badges. Details regarding digital identification will be shared later.

Process for Requesting Legacy Photo Identification

Students – Log in to “MyHumber > General Information > Digital Photo ID/Upload Your Photo” to upload your photo and have your student card mailed to you.

Employees – Go to its.humber.ca and complete a “Request a Photo ID Badge” eForm to upload a photo. Badges will be made available for pick-up at Tech Zone.

NOTE: The process for requesting student and employee photo identification for Fall 2022 is unchanged from Fall 2021, Winter 2022, and Summer 2022.

Certification of completion and CCR accreditation will be available to respective participants who attend a minimum of five out of the seven workshops per cohort. An optional BYOB pitch competition will follow on April 14.

Key To Entrepreneurship Modules

This 10-part module will strengthen your entrepreneurial skills! Learn and discover the fundamentals of entrepreneurship through our 10 easy to follow and well designed modules. These modules will introduce you to a variety of topics that can help you get started on your business idea or entrepreneurial venture. The modules include videos, a quiz and resources to enhance your learning experience.

BMO Launch Me Program & Competition

The BMO Launch Me Program is designed to help students and recent alumni prepare for success in the BMO Launch Me competition. Complete a series of skill building workshops to prepare your business idea for launch, and submit your work for a chance to win funds. The first round of the competition is a business plan submission. Chosen finalists will move on to the finals with a five-minute pitch to a panel of judges. CCR Certified!

Humber’s new Conference & Events Centre is located on the 5th floor of the Barrett Centre for Technology Innovation at North Campus.

Central Events Office is excited to provide an inspiring environment perfect for the Humber community and external clients to host their next conference, meeting, or event. The Central Events Office will streamline your planning process by coordinating the event logistics for all events held in the new Conference & Events Centre. We will book your space, organize room set-up, coordinate catering, and arrange AV requirements. 

This creative low waste event space will feature portable podiums, built-in projectors and screens, wireless audio video connectivity, wireless lavalier microphones, and web conferencing. The client should supply their laptop and accessories (USB, HDMI, or other connection cables) if they wish to display a presentation or perform web conferencing. When ordering catering for a designated low waste event spaces, china service will be the default at no additional cost. Disposable plates, cutlery, and glasses will not be available in these locations
