Dear Humber employees,

As a reminder, to provide certainty to students and employees, Humber, along with the other 23 Ontario colleges, is maintaining a COVID-19 Vaccination Policy for the remainder of the Winter 2022 term.

In a March 1, 2022 memo to the Ministry of Colleges and Universities, Ontario’s Chief Medical Officer of Health expressed his support for post-secondary institutions choosing to maintain COVID-19 vaccination policies for the remainder of the term and on an ongoing basis.

The Provincial Enhanced Vaccine Certificate (QR Code) is the ONLY accepted proof of vaccination. Upload your QR code to the Humber Guardian app or have it and your ID ready to show at the door.

Approved exemptions along with proof of a negative COVID-19 test result from the previous 72 hours are also still accepted.

We will be reviewing plans for the Summer 2022 term this month and will communicate any policy changes for it and future terms to the Humber community.

All individuals are required to wear a mask within Humber buildings. As part of Humber’s COVID-19 safety plan, masking continues to be an important measure to protect our staff and students from the spread of COVID-19 and will remain in place until at least the end of the winter term.

Please be reminded that:

  • All individuals in Humber buildings are required to wear a mask.

  • Employees and students who are able to maintain physical distancing (6 feet) can wear their own mask. This can be a reusable cloth mask or a disposable medical mask or a non-medical mask. The masks should be of good quality and fit.

  • Employees and students who are unable to maintain physical distancing (6 feet) are to wear a medical procedural mask (ASTM-rated) and eye protection (e.g. face shield or safety eyewear).

  • The college provides ASTM-rated medical procedural masks and eye protection to employees and students within lab settings who are unable to maintain physical distancing.

  • The college is currently making available N95 respirators to employees who are unable to maintain physical distancing in workplace settings. Employees may choose to wear an N95 respirator instead of a medical procedural mask. These will be provided over the winter semester based on supply.

  • Faculties and departments have designated individuals who request required masks (medical procedural or N95s) and eye protection from Occupational Health and Safety. Managers are to familiarize themselves with the internal process within their own faculty or department for acquiring and distribution of masks to employees.

  • An On-Campus toolkit provides scenarios, responses, and scripts to address masking issues: https://humber.ca/hroe/hr/content/return-to-campus-resources

  • Videos on how to use cloth, procedural and N95 masks are available at: https://humber.ca/campus-return/health-safety-video-resources

  • More information on types of masks is available on the Government of Canada website

If you have any questions regarding the use of masks, please contact your manager or healthandsafety@humber.ca.
