March is National Co-op and WIL month with March 23 being the official National Day of WIL. Nationally, partners in Co-op & WIL use this month to showcase the important value of these experiences to both students and employers and to celebrate the many innovative partnerships in this space.

We are appreciative of the ongoing efforts from faculty, staff, and our community and industry partners that make Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) possible for Humber students. To recognize the achievements of these individuals, we are asking for staff at Humber to join our social media campaign to post their own WIL-related content.

We hope you consider including student success stories, highlighting key individuals responsible for WIL, showcasing WIL projects with community/industry partners, or any other key WIL information you’d like to share.  I know from speaking to students directly just how important these experiences are in their academic journey, and in our goal of bringing learning to life!

Please include the following hashtags on your social media content so that folks can follow along with the conversation: #HumberWILPower, #InspiredWIL.

Please contact jill.rosenberg@humber.ca if you have any questions.

Thank you to all who support WIL at Humber.

Derek Stockley  Associate Vice-President Academic
Co-Chair of Experiential Learning/Work-Integrated Learning Working Group

Humber, you did it! Thanks to the hard work of staff and faculty over 83% of the courses running in winter became mobile-friendly, using Blackboard Ultra. Now most of our students can learn how they want, where they want.

Check out these celebratory videos from Humber Innovative Learning. Listen to your Humber colleagues share their stories. Hear what surprised them, what they learned, and what made them dance with joy!

Though the heavy lifting is over, Innovative Learning teams continue to support faculty with training events and self-directed resources:

We are pleased to announce that we have recently installed two electric vehicle (EV) dual charging stations, with the capacity to charge four EVs at a time, in staff parking Lot 9.

These charging stations are for the exclusive use of staff parking permit holders. Staff without a valid parking permit can still utilize the charging stations in the above-ground Commuter Hub (parking garage).

To obtain card reader access to Lot 9, contact the Parking & Transporation Services Manager

Humber encourages drivers to move their electric vehicles to a regular parking spot after four hours of free charging. If you choose to remain parked at an EV charging station, you will be billed $5.00 for each hour or partial hour of additional charging.

For more information about EV charging stations at Humber, please visit the Office of Sustainability's website or email sustainability@humber.ca.

Dr. Juliet Daniel and Kaiso

"The primary epithelial cell-cell adhesion system involving E-cadherin and its catenin cofactors a-, b-, g- and p120ctn, is perturbed in ~50% of human metastatic tumours, and this correlates with the invasive phenotype. Interestingly, the catenins also function as transcriptional regulators of genes involved in tumourigenesis. My laboratory focuses on the transcription factor Kaiso that was first identified as a specific binding partner for the catenin p120ctn, which is aberrantly expressed or absent in human breast, colon and skin carcinomas. Kaiso is a novel member of the POZ-zinc finger family of transcription factors implicated as oncoproteins or tumor suppressors, and currently it is the only known POZ protein with bi-modal DNA-binding and transcriptional repression activity; Kaiso recognizes a sequence-specific consensus, TCCTGCNA, or methylated CpG-dinucleotides." (https://www.biology.mcmaster.ca/component/comprofiler/userprofile/danielj.html?Itemid=351)

Did you understand any of that? You don't have to, what you do need to understand is that the Black students on our campuses are all capable!

To learn more about Dr. Juliet Daniel, please view her lecture

Thank you Errol Cyrus for suggesting this post. If you have Black/African histories you think we should all know, please email morris.beckford@humber.ca.
