Launch Me workshops aim to help students and alumni receive the training and skills they need to take their business idea to the next level. There are three sections for the workshop series, with topics including the Lean Canvas, Business Plan Development, and Business Pitch training. The Launch Me competition required a completed application and business plan. In the 2018-2019 academic year, there were twenty-two (22) applicants of which eight (8) were selected as our finalists, with five (5) being selected to win $20,000 in prizes, to launch their business venture. The eight (8) finalists had a chance to pitch their business idea in front of the CfE’s panel of judges, comprised of eight experts gathered from the GTA’s entrepreneurial network.

Our 2018-2019 winners are:

  1. TackFeler, Bryan Gomez ($5,000)
  2. BOOTH, Christopher Rahim ($5,000)

On the latest episode of the NEXTcast podcast, available free on Soundcloud and iTunes, we speak with School of Health Sciences professor Christine Zupo and two of her students about their TIF-funded research study.

Alongside Christine, Guelph-Humber students Alex Evans and Lexa Castellan discuss their experience as researchers and offer insight into their growth as professionals. Learn more about positive interventions, the research process, and student professional development in this engaging discussion.

“I never felt like a student. I always felt like an equal contributor.” – Alex Evans

“The most important thing we took away from this experience was a newfound confidence in our ability to work together as professionals.” – Lexa Castellan

The National Day of Mourning is held annually in Canada and other countries around the world on April 28. On this day, workers, families, employers and others honour those workers who have been killed, been injured or suffered illness on the job.

Let us continue working together to renew our efforts to continually improve health and safety in the workplace.

To observe the day and to affirm Humber’s ongoing commitment to providing a safe and healthy work and study environment, campus flags will be flown at half-mast on Sunday, April 28, 2019.

To learn more about the National Day of Mourning or to write a tribute, visit wsibdayofmourning.ca.

It is with great pleasure that I announce the appointment of Sarah-Jane Greenway as the new Associate Dean, Journalists and Writers in the Faculty of Media and Creative Arts.

Sarah-Jane is a very experienced and accomplished administrator with profound institutional knowledge encompassing a broad variety of aspects of Humber College. During her time, initially in the Registrar’s Office and later in Program Planning Development & Renewal, Sarah-Jane led a number of successful initiatives in recruitment, admissions, records, registration, fees, program reviews, degree consent renewals, program mapping, curriculum changes and student success and engagement. In 2010, Sarah-Jane received a Humber College Innovation of the Year Award for “The Use of Social Media at Humber in support of Student Recruitment.”

For the last eight months, Sarah Jane was the Acting Associate Dean in the School of Creative and Performing Arts. In this role, her personality, leadership and institutional knowledge have been key assets in quickly establishing successful relationships and processes to manage what has proven to be a period of intense and accelerated change.

Sarah-Jane holds a Masters of Education in Post-Secondary Studies from Memorial University. A runner and mother of three, Sarah-Jane is an avid reader and theatregoer.

Please join me in welcoming Sarah-Jane to her new position!

As part of its commitment to supporting institutional data literacy, Institutional Planning and Analysis is launching a new publication called Insights. This series will present Humber data and analysis on key topics related to the college’s strategic priorities and student success. Through one-page briefs, the aim of the new publication is to establish a common understanding about important institutional issues and topics using data.

Our first release of Insights includes two related reports:

  1. The Institutional Cost of Student Attrition assessed the institutional cost of attrition associated with one cohort of degree students.
  2. The Cost of Attrition to Students examined the financial cost to students of leaving a degree program prior to completion.

To view these reports, visit Insights.
