JOIN THE CONNECT PROGRAM AND MAKE A DIFFERENCE

The International Student and Staff/Faculty/Admin Connect Mentoring Program is designed to enhance the experience of new international students at Humber College ITAL. We hope that this will be accomplished by creating an opportunity for faculty, staff, admin and Humber students to be part of a “Welcome Team” that will engage with new international students through informal, personalized and friendly social interactions.

WHY?

  1. To improve the social, psychological and academic performance of international students as they transition to life in Canada and at HumberCollegeITAL.

       2. To enhance the feeling of hospitality on campus for new international students.

       3. To enhance the intercultural experience and cross-cultural knowledge of staff and faculty. Participation in this program will allow faculty, staff and admin to enrich their intercultural perspectives and communication skills while gaining a greater understanding of the goals, motivations and difficulties experienced international students.

WHO CAN BE PART OF THE WELCOME TEAM?

The project will be open to all interested full and part-time faculty, staff and admin at Humber College ITAL. (Participation in the program is entirely voluntary.)

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT?

  1. Attend the Mix & Mingle session.
  2. Attend at least two (2) Connect Program organized events during each term (e.g. Mix & Mingle, International Café,and Potluck and Cupcake Decorating Event, etc.).
  3. Meet with your mentee at least two (2) times outside of any Connect Program organized event during each term.

If interested, please contact Naghmeh Saffarian-Pour before Friday, January 20, 2017:

It is with great pleasure that I announce that Mona Nouroozifar has accepted the position of Associate Dean, Mathematics and Research Skills and Analysis in the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences effective January 16, 2017.

Mona joins Humber and LAS after enjoying a very successful academic career in various administrative roles at several Ontario institutions, including Durham College, the Ontario College of Trades and Seneca College where she has most recently held the position of Academic Chair, Applied Arts and Health Sciences at the King Campus.

Prior to joining the colleges, she also held the position of Manager, National Research and Clinical Programs with the Parkinson Society Canada, Clinical Research Coordinator at CAMH and Project Engineer at Pivotal Consulting Inc., all of which combine to provide her with a very unique perspective into the programs and courses held within her portfolio.

She holds a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from Ryerson University and an MBA from the University of Southern Queensland, Australia where she is currently pursuing her Doctor of Business Administration, in gender-differentiated motivation and academic self-concept as predictors of student retention among community college students.

On behalf of the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the entire Humber community, let me extend my congratulations and say that we look forward to working with Mona on many new and exciting initiatives as she leads the faculty and staff involved in the development and delivery of courses and programs in the areas of mathematics, research skills and analysis at Humber.
